Revisado: 03-18-25
A good story with lessons about family, forgiveness and secrets. Family life is never one dimensional. Good Parents make the best decisions they know how to protect the ones they love. Sometimes it doesn’t go over as hoped or intended.

A very tangled web
Revisado: 03-05-25
This story was a good one. It’s a tangled web of lies, lost love and spiraling mental illness triggered by unresolved trauma. Its a lot to unpack

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Raised by her beloved grandmother in tension-filled, post-segregation Virginia, Grace is barely a teenager when she loses her Maw Maw. Revisado: 06-13-24
The narrators were excellent, really made the stories come alive. Each woman's life had it's own measure of internal and external peaks and valleys that was written out impeccably. It was difficult to put the book down. I wanted more.

The way the author interwove the various story lines and timeliness was seamless. At the conclusion I was left with a myriad of emotions and thoughts about life. Which I believe that is exactly what the author wanted. Well done!

So glad there is a part 2 to Sugar. I just had to know what became of Sugar after her dramatic exit from Bigelow. The familial connections in a small town were mind blowing.

Historia
Hardship, sacrifice, determination, and ultimate triumph make up Blind Faith, the frank and compelling biography of Lula Hardaway, mother of superstar musician and singer Stevie Wonder. A motherless child born in a sharecropper's shack in Alabama, Lula was passed from relative to relative, unwanted and unloved. As a teenager she was sent to Chicago where she married a much older man who abused her and forced her to work as a prostitute. Determined to build a better life for her children, she eventually made her escape to Detroit.

Revisado: 10-04-22
I enjoyed this back story on the life of Lula Hardaway. Despite her personal trials and hardships her love for her child pushed her beyond her dreams and propelled his. I enjoyed the narration by Viola Davis, she has a very easy listening voice, she moves between characters with ease.

Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Sugar arrives in the small town of Bigelow, Arkansas, like an ominous storm. She saunters down the street in a blonde wig and spiked heels, cigarette dangling between red-painted lips. Without even speaking to her, the women in town hate her. But when she moves in next door to Pearl, a woman who tragically lost her daughter 15 years earlier, the two women bond over tragic pasts.

This story moved at a good pace, with little pieces of the puzzle sprinkled throughout. halfway through it felt as if it would be a joyful ending. Instead I was heartbroken. Great story and narrating, but I wish it had ended differently.
