Historia
After Nehemiah Wooten, a polarizing figure among the hearing impaired, turns up dead, NYPD Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy begins to investigate. While interviewing Nehemiah’s wife Valora, he’s surprised when the not-so-grieving widow—hiding a secret pregnancy—goes into labor. Summoning his midwife friend Sarah Brandt, Frank learns from her of the eugenics views that kept Nehemiah from Valora’s bed ever since the birth of their deaf daughter Electra—now suspiciously joyful at her dad’s death.

Twists and turns with disappointing ending
Revisado: 06-11-24
The narrator is slowly improving. Almost consistent characterization of man characters. Supporting characters only annoyingly cartoonish half the time, found the story ending too pat and not particularly believable. Author still telegraphs the ending through last quarter of the book.

Bad cartoonish narration makes worst story in series a disaster
Revisado: 06-09-24
I have been following the books in chronological order and this is the weakest so far in characterization and plot, These weaknesses were highlighted and made worse by the new narrator, not only can she not maintain a standard voice for the main characters, her vocal performances include shallow annoying cartoonist renditions of all the characters and stereotypically offensive imitations of Irish Chinese and Italian American accents, The most blatant example of a bad reader ruining a story I’ve encountered. A sad contrast to the subtlety and skill of Callie Beaulieu the previous narrator. I see this clown Suzanne Toran is listed as the reader for the rest of the series. If her performance continues to be this bad I may not be able to finish the series.

Historia
There I Go Again is a celebrity memoir like no other, revealing the life of a man whose acting career has been so rich that millions of Americans know his face even while they might not recognize his name. William Daniels is an enigma - a rare chameleon who has enjoyed massive success both in Hollywood and on Broadway and been embraced by fans of successive generations. Few of his peers inspire the fervor with which buffs celebrate his most iconic roles, among them George Feeny in Boy Meets World.

Better with Daniels
Revisado: 03-20-24
The reading was rather flat it was only because the story itself was well told and moved at such a good pace that my attention was held. Mr. Daniels has obviously learned his sense of story from his decades in the theatre but it would have been so much better if he had read his story in his own voice.

Not what I was expecting
Revisado: 08-05-20
From the description I thought this was a book about what it was like to be in prison. It was not it did depict the criminal mind with a poetic perception and intelligence. The author is gifted and extremely messed up. I did enjoy the book and hung on every word even though it wasn’t what I was looking for.

Historia
Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less.

When first published to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, Live from New York was immediately proclaimed the best book ever produced on the landmark and legendary late-night show. In their own words, unfiltered and uncensored, a dazzling galaxy of trail-blazing talents recalled three turbulent decades of on-camera antics and off-camera escapades.

Authentic voices?
Revisado: 06-26-19
It is long - really long. But that’s to be expected. I just wish they had given the actual subjects the chance to read their own contributions in their own voices. It would have made it easier to listen to as only a few voices over such a long stretch can be a bit monotonous.
What I did like is they let all the different people state they’re own opinion, without editorializing. It was fascinating to hear so many contradictory perceptions of the same subject side by side and allowed the listener a depth of information not usually found.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

Fun& more serious than I imagined. The bad British accents were annoying though. As a British ex-pt I would have preferred no accents. Get a British reader. Most Brit performers can do multiple regional dialects

Goodbye Tom Ripley
Revisado: 09-25-16
What did you love best about Ripley Under Water?
the more Ripley changes the more he stays the same: the same multi-layered characterization of the protagonist, the same mundane sociopathy, the same lucky breaks. In this last story Tom Ripley's self-absorption is more apparent than ever and the reader wonders: what is going on with his wife and her friend? why do other psychopaths fixate on Ripley? when is it all going to catch up with him? But Tom Ripley never does. He is the canniest survivor and one of the most likeable sociopath in literature. It helps us understand why and how we tolerate the sociopaths in our government, our media, and right next door.
What did you like best about this story?
the nuances of the relationship between him and his wife. and the continuing exploration of how far a man can go without a soul.
What about Kevin Kenerly’s performance did you like?
as always subtle and dead on.
Any additional comments?
I wish there were more Tom Ripley but in this last book I sensed Patricia Highsmith was tiring of him. I will have to explore more of her works. There are few of her skill.
