Historia
When Laura Powell and Henry Salter travel to Paris in 1938, neither considers the other very good company. Laura is a shallow, spoiled heir to a fortune, and Henry an opportunistic bore—or so they think. But as her father’s protégé, Henry is tasked with accompanying Laura for her safety, even as she continues to scorn him. Orphaned stowaway David forces the pair to see eye to eye. They can ignore their growing feelings, but they can’t deny the boy’s need for protection. Yet even with this tentative truce, their problems are far from over.

Not a historical novel
Revisado: 02-14-25
This book is better classified as romance novel placed in WW2. I'am drawn to historical novels, especially the research done that leads to great fiction, but I didn't find this book informative in any sense about life in Paris at the beginning of the war. Not a compelling story but lots of romance, longing and lust to fill the pages... great book if you are a romance fan and would be better if it was categorized as such.

Important message about God's love and forgiveness.
Revisado: 04-29-24
Loved the message of friendship, envy and loss against the backdrop of England during Wold War 2. But especially the deeper message of God's love and forgiveness - and His absolute faithfulness to us even during those times when we lose our own faith. That said the romantic dialogue could have been better.

Historia
Lidia De Angelis has kept a low profile since Mussolini's laws wrenched her from her childhood sweetheart. But when the Germans occupy Venice in 1943, she must flee the city to save her life. Lidia joins the partisans in the Venetian mountains, where she meets David, an English soldier fighting for the same cause. As she grows closer to him, harsh German reprisals and Lidia’s own ardent patriotic activities threaten to tear them apart.

Historical fiction vs Romance
Revisado: 11-26-23
Reads more like a romance novel. Reviews said it was very informational WW2 historical fiction about italian resistance, but if you're looking for that then I'd recommend "Beneath the Scarlet Sky" as it's much more intriguing and informative, minus all the romance dialogue which was so sappy it was almost unbearable.
