Historia
This is the story of Theodore Roosevelt Jr., a fortunate son who proved himself on the battlefields of two world wars. General Omar Bradley said of him, "I have never known a braver man or a more devoted soldier." But for much of his life, Theodore Roosevelt's son Ted seemed born to live in his father's shadow. With the same wide smile, winning charm, and vigorous demeanor, Ted possessed limitless potential, with even the White House within his reach.

New (to me) Historical Figure
Revisado: 03-24-25
Ted Jr accomplished quite a bit in his life and has a very fascinating story, one that didn't reek of entitlement. I wasn't a fan of the extreme detail used throughout the book. Most of the fluff was a bit boring and, though the details are likely accurate, they did little to enhance the story. However, I found several wonderful moments and I'm glad I now know more about little TR.

Over my head
Revisado: 03-24-25
I have not listened to book one of the series, but I'm not sure that made much of a difference. I'm not even sure how to summarize what Ilistened to and I probably should have returned the book midway through when I considered doing so. Both narrators were pretty strong.

Historia
In late March 1944, as Stalin’s forces push into Ukraine, young Emil and Adeline Martel must make a terrible decision: Do they wait for the Soviet bear’s intrusion and risk being sent to Siberia? Or do they reluctantly follow the wolves - murderous Nazi officers who have pledged to protect “pure-blood” Germans? The Martels are one of many families of German heritage whose ancestors have farmed in Ukraine for more than a century.

Great narrator
Revisado: 10-15-23
I read Beneath a Scarlet Sky and enjoyed it greatly. This was a good story and a fantastic narrator, but I wouldn't put it as high as Scarlet Sky. No doubt that it was fascinating story and I've tried to read more about the characters since completing. The characters' story seemed a bit drawn out at times though the history lessons were quite great. Sullivan paints vivid pictures through his words and brings great history into his "fiction".

Parents today complain of fragmented relationships with their kids. What parents yearn for - and their kids too - is deep, heart-to-heart connections. But how can parents compete with all the other noise fighting for their kids' attention? The answer, says Greta Eskridge, is to break free from regular routines and familiar comforts of home to experience new places and adventures - even if those adventures go awry. From simply reading a book together to going on an overnight backpacking trip, activities together provide unique and crucial bonding opportunities.

I'm not a mom...
Revisado: 10-14-23
So it was hard to get into the over the top drama. She uses a bunch of "mommy" lingo that I also don't relate to. I did get a couple of good points from it, but I definitely am not the intended audience. If you're a dude that thinks baby talk is weakening our children, this may not be your gig.

I listened to the first book with my kids on a trip, but since I'm usually riding by myself, I'm continuing the series without them and it's been just as enjoyable for a grown man. These guys use a bit of subtle humor in their writing which helps to expand the audience beyond kids.

Historia
In 1960, Ishmael Reed, then an aspiring young writer, interviewed Malcolm X for a local radio station in Buffalo, and the encounter cost Reed his job and changed his life. In Malcolm and Me, Reed, the author of such classic novels as Mumbo Jumbo and the winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, reveals a side of Malcolm X the public has never seen before, and explores how the civil rights firebrand influenced his own views on working and living and speaking out, and left a mark on generations of artists and activists.

Good by me
Revisado: 03-20-20
He, the author/narrator, can definitely be a little hard to follow at times, but I enjoyed the story. No, it’s not a deep bio of Malcolm. It’s an autobio with perspective and insight that can be valued by the reader. Malcolm made an impact on this man’s life so he choose an appealing title. Good for him!
