Historia
Deep in the mountains of West Virginia, Conor and his team are sheltering at the Banks Compound, desperate for some way to regain the momentum that billionaire Walter Lightspeed brought to the country. They’d been so close to recovery and now salvation slipped further away with each passing moment. Desperate for a ray of hope amidst their grim reality, the team launches a mission to find someone who might be able to bring new energy to the national recovery effort. Someone America knows and respects. Someone who clawed their way up from poverty to build an empire. Someone plainspoken and unquestionably patriotic.

Historia
Westley Flagg isn't your usual lawbreaker. He's a poacher, a moonshiner, and a prepper, out of necessity. Despite trying to live on the straight and narrow, he knows the law can turn things on you in a heartbeat. When Wes has to come up with money for his Grandpa's surgery, he gets involved with an unsavory group. Living deep in poverty for most of his life, he's become resilient and flexible, but college education can only take him so far. A solar storm sends the northern lights as far south as Texas, and cascading failures in the grid cripple the nation. Now, without communications, Flagg has to prove he has what it takes to still survive.

Bland
Revisado: 03-11-23
Look it's not bad, it's also not great. I loved the concept of the book but there's just no action at all, there were tons of setups that could've resulted in captivating chapters but didn't. I didn't like how casual the father was with his 16 year old hooking up with a twenty something Infront of him, I also didn't care for anytime the group needed something it was conveniently found within arms reach, from a Geiger counter (in a display but miraculously was tuned and had a good battery) to a unlooted fully stocked grocery store. also the time jumps are horrendous. literally from one paragraph to the next is ten years apart and a main character died. Dialogue is non existent until the last few hours of the book. narrator is decent. overall just a very bland book.

great story, amazing narrator and I'm very picky about anyone other than Kevin Peirce, this story was captivating from the first chapter to the epilogue. spend the credit and give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. the author has a shtf type series that lead me here and I highly recommend it as well.

- De K. H. en 03-12-20
narrator could make the deaf plug their ears
Revisado: 02-13-23
story is horribly written, ever wanted to listen to an hour of someone talking about cutting a rope? then this is the book for you. the antagonist is narrated like an early bond villan and the characters have no personality. everyone in the book is as incompetent as possible and the author only cares about how everyone feels with any minor event. oh and the smell of characters hair... waste of time and a credit. I hope the narrator never reads his kids a bedtime story, he has a voice for silent television. I liked the premise of the book but everything else is terrible. there are no words to describe how bad this narrator is and the author is not much better.

horrible
Revisado: 02-02-23
I honestly don't know what's worse, the narrator, dialogue, or overall story. I listened to the sample and thought I could stomach the narrator, I was wrong. it has dialogue like a N64 game. I wasted credit, don't make the same mistake. somehow it seems everyone in the book just casually took their loaded firearms on the plane, with spare mags, holsters, and anything else they pleased. apparently the author forgot emp's are line of sight, and especially if you're close enough to the blast that it temporarily blinds you. just a waste of a credit. I made it just over an hour into the story and I'm giving up.

not worth it
Revisado: 01-14-23
I got this book because it was cheap and I saw Kevin Peirce was the narrator. I know not all shtf books are going to be about people who know everything and have tons put back, but this book is just not enjoyable or captivating. the main characters bounce between so much indecision on so many things that should be clear, there's a scene where the author made an attempt at talking guns when a character strips one to clean it... he should have just stopped there rather than googling words to try and describe parts of a firearm. it's just not a good book and really lacks substance. go listen to the borrowed world, one second after, or the going home series if you're looking for a good listen because this just isn't it.
