Science fiction with a believable plot, characters and well written. I have listened to both books and can only hope that there is another sequel. I think that this view of today's Orwellian concept is as close to pure truth as it gets. Mind you now, I know that Travelers are fictitious but the way that some prominent figures are presented as possible travelers is plausible.
Overall I liked the sequel as much as the first. I only hope that Myia can be saved in the next book.
Please don't kill this character, she is the reason I read this book series.

made me miss the good old days

I happen to live in the area that this author writes about in this book. I was deeply entranced with the description of the local area as it was presented. Very accurate. Many a day went by that I listened to the book and was at the actual site described in the book. This was a very honest book about life in the south during the time period. I felt as if I had been transported back in time and could imagine the young children casting nets along the Fairhope pier as one of the characters in the novel. I highly recommend this book for those who long for a time when things were simpler, slower and safer for you children. The only danger was from inside the family itself.
Oh, there were other dangers, like the war and the Nazi paranoia, but overall it was mostly internal struggles that created tension in this book.

Historia
Lise Adams is a young woman attempting to uncover the mystery of her father's disappearance ten years earlier. Turk Findley is an ex-sailor and sometimes-drifter. They come together when an infall of cometary dust seeds the planet with tiny remnant Hypothetical machines. Soon, this seemingly hospitable world will become very alien indeed--as the nature of time is once again twisted, by entities unknown.

Spin off Axis
Revisado: 08-08-08
What was happening when the author wrote this sequel? I listened intently to every word and tried to imagine the characters as they were introduced but they were not as fully developed as the first set of characters in "Spin". The unresolved issue of the Hypothetical s was, to say the very least, disappointing. I had in my mind's eye foresaw the ending a different way and felt cheated with the ultimate outcome. Why leave the readers with no loose ends tied up? The explanation was like the name suggests...hypothetical. No-one knew, no-one was willing to fully explain and no-one seemed to care after 2 books and a dozen or so characters were possessed with finding an answer. It seemed like a least one would have been given the answer to all the mysteries and held on to the info maybe for another sequel.
I did enjoy listening to Scott Brick read this novel and at times I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation, but not often enough.
Note to writers: please don't ask readers to invest in novels that even you don't know how it should end.

Historia
One night when he was 10, Tyler stood in his backyard and watched the stars go out. They flared into brilliance, then disappeared, replaced by an empty black barrier. He and his best friends, Jason and Diane Lawton, had seen what became known as the Big Blackout. It would shape their lives.

great concept but lacking something......
Revisado: 08-08-08
I was interested in the concept of the stars going out and the earth being trapped in a bubble that slowed time down but like the mysteries of space, the author wrote as if he had no idea what was happening. It is very frustrating to wait for an explanation or wrap up and all characters seem as clueless as I was.
I waited for the sequel(Axis), in hopes that the mystery of the Hypothetical s would be at long last cleared up but you'll need to read that review to find out if it is more defining.
Scott Brick is....well, Scott Brick, the very best at what he does.

Historia
This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon.

Timeless entry of capitalism

I never tire of comparing this book and the ongoing problems the world economies have today. There are so many comparisons that I won't even begin to go into them. The author has a unique way of driving her point home. There are times that I felt as if I was at the dentist and the dentist keeps telling me over and over what they are doing and as if I didn't understand them they have the assistant drive home the same point.
The characters are believable but at times seem to be whiny, arrogant, insecure, belligerent, indignant,self-centered and heroic. You want Dagny to win but you also want her to fail sometimes. Things just seem too easily bought and without any red tape or hoops to jump through. I am a business man who cannot seem to jump these hurdles as smoothly as these characters, nor can I drop a wad of cash to get anything I am working on a top priority. It just doesn't work that way. That said, I still enjoyed the backbone of the story...work hard, stay true to your convictions, be honest, fair and above all keep your word as a business person and you will reap your reward. The drawback to this philosophy is there are always those with the opposite intentions of yours willing to do whatever it takes to remove and halt any success that you may achieve.
I give this book a 5 star for inspiration, 4 star for storyline and writing, yet only a 3 star for accuracy in government and the workings of the checks and balance system. (Where was the President, Senate, Congress in this book)? I do recommend this book to anyone who understands the business world or those who are thinking of starting a business. It is, after all a classic piece of literature that seems to cover any global, economic or time frame. A very long listen, it took me 4 and 1/2 weeks to listen to the unabridged version on my 2 hour commute each day. It will remain in my library forever to be replayed when then next stock market crash or Enron fiasco happens.
