Silas is inducted into the System, becoming the last in a long line of Earth's "forerunners." The rewards are great, but the danger is greater. We are not alone in the universe. The fate of five worlds hangs on how their forerunners perform. Will Silas have what it takes to win Earth a place in the multiverse? Or will Earth become another mining world stripped of all resources and left a barren husk floating in the cosmos?

Thank you for skippable Stat chapters! The consequences are great, and I wasn't expecting first place to be as... Dark as it is.

this was not good, and I really liked the first one
Revisado: 11-20-24
This book felt like it was blown out for length in the most unimpressive way possible. the explanations were way too long-winded and the character interactions were really underwhelming. I couldn't finish the the rest of the book... I think I made it to chapter 11. Thee amount of social activism in the series is pretty manageable but in this book it was just way too much, it's really a turn-off. I don't mind any of the overall themes, but they are taken way too far. At first I thought I was just not in a good headspace to listen to the book. However, after repeatedly trying to get into it, I just don't care about how this ends which is sad given how interesting the first book was. I can't wait for the mainline story to get back to Corin and Karis

Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

My soul needed this book
Revisado: 09-22-24
The Bobiverse is my ultimate future fantasy scenario - an immortal machine, sheathed in a powerful exploration vessel capable of setting out into the stars and discovering the wonders of our galaxy. This book recaptured a lot of what was missing in Heaven's River and even some of All These Worlds. I'm really happy with how Not Till We Are Lost re-kindled the wonder that exists in We Are Legion, and introduces more vastness to the story's universe.
Lots of great comedic moments, lots of great seriousness and gravity, more world-building... I mean honestly it's just more everything we've come to love from this series. Of course Ray Porter kills it. I wish there had been more GUPPI, but that's a tiny ask on the cosmic experience of this book.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

I just wanted a subject using my favorite overused words of the book. Loved the story. Love the descriptions of battle. Those are so hard to get right, but they have been consistently good in this book. May you have continued good luck at future spawning pools, reader.

I love the believable banter and characters
Revisado: 10-25-23
I don't know what it is, but the banter between the characters in the dramatized version is so good, and makes them all feel like real people. The way Bobcat and William play off each other is fantastic. And William's line "did I like it?" had me rolling. The first moments of the book were very confusing/disorienting but make sense later in the book. Overall really looking forward to the next dramatized release.

Definitely does not live up to the hype
Revisado: 05-14-22
Couldn't finish it. Wil wheaton is not helping this book with his narration. Voice changes are mild if noticeable at all, and it feels like a meager effort except when Wade or H get angry or excited.
Aside from voice acting the story is pretty predictable for the first 6 or so hours I listened.
Sadly I opted to sit in silence on an airplane rather than listen to this.

Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

It's not bad, but the same old jokes, and the same formula. At times it's still pretty funny, but I think it's getting dragged out at this point.
