Decent Narration / Subpar Story

The narration pretty good. The guy who narrated Max was a bit dull and not that interesting to listen to. The other narrators were fantastic!

The first half of this book was great. The second half not so much. Instead of sticking with a decision the author basically wrote two different versions of practically the same ending. There’s only one big real difference between the two endings. If it wasn’t for that one difference both outcomes would have been pretty much the same. The author probably thought writing two different versions of the ending was a good idea…it wasn’t. It got confusing and down right boring. The first half had me completely hooked, the second I struggled with finishing. I really wish the author chose a lane instead of playing the “what if?” game. It’s basically a choose your own ending and the other ending is just completely useless because it amounts to nothing. Even the final chapter isn’t important because it adds nothing to the story. It just tries to justify the second half. After the first half, I lost all connection to both characters. It felt like the first half just led up to a point where there wasn’t any result or consequences. I would like to end by saying the book is well written. I just wish the author stuck with one ending instead of writing the same ending in two different ways (minus the one big difference being Gracie).

A Triumph!

I honestly cannot get enough of how beautifully Andy Serkis narrated this. By far the best version of these books on audio.

The story is wonderful on its own, but once the great Andy Serkis starts reading it, there’s no going back. Beautifully read, wonderfully acted. I loved every second of it.

Wonderful ending to a fantastic series. Tatiana Maslany is as usual, perfect as Katniss. There are some parts that are slow, but the ending I feel is perfect to this trilogy.

Tatiana Maslany is beyond pefect

We all know the book by now, even if you haven’t read it you’ve probably seen at least one of the movies. My review is going to be more on the performer than the book itself (which is excellent). Reading the book all those years ago I remember not liking it too much. Maybe because I couldn’t get Katniss’s voice right in my head or something. Now after listening to Tatiana read the book, I can never go back to the physical copy. She doesn’t just read the book, she performs it, she becomes Katniss. You can hear the cracks in her voice when Katniss is about to cry but won’t. I’ve listened to many audiobooks, and this has to be one of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to. Tatiana Maslany is beyond perfect in reading this. I would also like to note, if you’ve never seen her show, Orphan Black, do yourself a favor and go watch it!

Boring / Predictable

The author tries far too hard to make the story full of twists and turns. You see everything coming from a mile away. The author tried to make the story youthful and relatable, but failed. Never once did I care for Daniella and her family. Morgan was decent, but also extremely one note. There wasn’t any real character development. Honestly, I could go on, but don’t waste your time listening to this. It drags and that’s not something you want from a short story like this. Narrator was decent, but didn’t make the voices all that different. Skip this story.

I liked everything except for Rachel. Nathan and Ziggy feel like products of Rachel’s misery and I don’t find it fair to them. Rachel is like a black hole, only nobody really cares or does anything about it.

Beautifully Told

This is such a remarkable tale. It’s a must listen if you’re into WW2. Will Damron made this novel come to life. I don’t believe anybody could have done a better job.
