Good overall story with a lame woke political subplot

As always the detective part of Connelly's books are first rate. it's a shame he had to use his leftist political leanings to insert an idea that J6 political protesters would shoot innocent civilians. You can look it up, The only person shot on January 6th was an unarmed woman. And the author lightly mocked her. completely unnecessary and added nothing to the story.

it seemed disjointed with little character development and a lot of blah blah blah. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood but this was one I couldn't finish even though it was free.

Novel kills a lot of time with subplots

Earlier books in the series we're mainly about the cases with a little bit of personal life thrown in. This novel starts with a case and then digresses to reasonably shallow relationship issues and an entities of Hollywood before eventually getting to the point. And then the ending is rather unrealistic and Deus ex machina.

I've read dozens of the authors books, and none have wreaked of woke liberalism before. But this book accepts and perpetrates misinformation regarding the experimental vaccines for C-19 as well as implying cloth masks are effective against it. I'm not an antivaxer, but it's unacceptable that the author acts like there's no risk, when the CDC and Pharma companies say there is.

Then in a fit of extreme insanity, the author goes against the facts of the death of J6 police officer Brian Sicknick, who died of natural causes according to the medical examiner. Don't take my word for it Google it. Bery disappointing that the author puts out a complete falsehood.

The story is otherwise compelling.

We have a spy with lots of kills but now we find out his deepest fear: someone not wearing a mask. In the next book he will demand to talk to a manager.

To be fair, for a while they talk about a woman who plays a string instrument and seldom makes mistakes.

It's unfathomable that an author could create a book this well-written, but where the main character has no struggles because he's a thousand times more powerful than anyone on the planet from the beginning.

This book was very odd. It had some interesting world building and the beginning of some interesting character development. Then it randomly changed gears in a meaningless ramble.

A good book; different from others

The setup of the book was good and somewhat unique. The main characters were interesting. Well the book set up a sense of mystery, there really wasn't ever a reveal, and magic played a very minor part. additionally there was a lot of repetition on the part of the butler that just served to fill space.

The book had promise early on and some good characters. Unfortunately all the villainous characters are total caricatures. and all the heroes are annoyingly reticent.

But there is essentially no plot unless you want to call an angry irrational dad, spoiled children, and boring stuff on a space station a plot.

I will say that the author seems to have a lot of potential.

Dan Brown can be a little ridiculous, but Imagine Dan Brown's drug-addlef cousin Shemp trying to imitate him. The amnesia's cliche. The plot is a patchwork of random ideas. The characters are silly. Silliest of all is the science, snippets of which hold promise but as a whole makes little sense. The narrator is so good, it almost makes the book seem decent. But. It. Isn't.
