Historia
Young Emmett Farmer is working in the fields when a strange letter arrives summoning him away from his family. He is to begin an apprenticeship as a bookbinder - a vocation that arouses fear, superstition, and prejudice among their small community, but one neither he nor his parents can afford to refuse. For as long as he can recall, Emmett has been drawn to books, even though they are strictly forbidden. Bookbinding is a sacred calling, Seredith informs her new apprentice, and he is a binder born.

Very dreary
Revisado: 12-03-24
I rarely just give up on a book but this one was so odd and dreary that I ended up deciding I couldn't continue it. I think it's more me than anything. The storyline was a little hard to follow. The narration was very good, though!

Historia
When a bomb destroys the Special Irish Branch of Scotland Yard, all fingers point to the increasingly brazen factions of Irish dissidents seeking liberation from English rule. Volunteering their services to the British government, Cyrus Barker and Thomas Llewelyn set out to infiltrate a secret cell of the Irish Republican Brotherhood known as the Invisibles. Posing as a reclusive German bomb maker and his anarchist apprentice, they are recruited for the group's ultimate plan: to bring London to its knees and end the monarchy forever.

German accent?
Revisado: 06-21-17
What did you like best about this story?
Fairly light mystery with a bit of a dark ending. Overall though, entertaining.
What three words best describe Antony Ferguson’s performance?
I read a few reviews that commented on the narrator's inability to do a German accent, and I have to say, it was really true. It was something I could ignore but if you were bothered by it, it could ruin the story for you!

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

love this book,, didn't end where I thought
Revisado: 04-08-17
I love ex this book, even though I resisted buying because I found Britt-Marie to be such an unlikable character in My Grand, other Asked Me To tel, You She's Sorry. I quickly understood why he started with such an unsympathetic character and the book benefitted fromit.

Love Marguerite Gavin but if you live near Denver
Revisado: 06-18-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Love Marguerite Gavin's readings, she brings the characters to life. However, living in Boulder, some of her local mispronunciations of local landmarks make me crazy. For example, it's not El-Itches, it's E-Litches. When creating local flavor, it would be a good idea to check these details...
What other book might you compare Kitty Raises Hell to and why?
Any of the Dead Wiitch Walking series.
What about Marguerite Gavin’s performance did you like?
Her presentation of the different characters.

Interesting Story Poor Recording
Revisado: 03-06-08
If you like historical fiction, especially with a religious twist, this is an interesting story. If not, might not be the best for you--I happen to really like historical and religious stories so I found this fascinating. The downside was that there are some very strange things in the recording quality--spliced in bits that almost sound like a different reader.

The surprise hit of the year, Allison Pearson's debut novel is garnering critical and fan raves. Publishers Weekly calls I Don't Know How She Does It "delightfully fast moving...with dozens of laugh-aloud moments and many tenderly touching ones," and Booklist applauds this "compelling manifesto on the plight of working mothers that manages to be both angry and funny."

Oddly depressing
Revisado: 09-23-03
I have to admit, I couldn't get through the end of this book. I had the thought that it would improve, but the story just seemed so endlessly discouraging and bleak. There were mildly humorous bits, just not enough to sustain my interest. The narrator is great, and I think the book may seem funnier to other people than it did to me. It seemed like all the bad parts of being a working mother and none of the good things.
