What a treat
Revisado: 06-26-24
Full of gems. It's especially cathartic for this liberal to hear him take down the superficial, entitled, uninformed, materialistic generation and the woke culture. Not only because they are annoying but that they are the perfect material to make useful idiots out of.

Has good points but not for the anti-religion
Revisado: 04-23-23
I took a chance that this is a christian book. It started out good but became sermonizing after 1/3 of the book in. I tried to return it but Audible wouldn't accept it. So I continued listening, It got better after the sermonizing part. It does have good and helpful points.

Historia
Traumatic experiences leave a “living legacy” of effects that often persist for years and decades after the events are over. Historically, it has always been assumed that retelling the story of what happened would resolve these effects. However, survivors report a different experience: Telling and re-telling the story of what happened to them often reactivates their trauma responses, overwhelming them rather than resolving the trauma.

Stunned, profound, hopeful
Revisado: 03-04-23
So stunned by the information in this workbook and ‘Healing the fragmented Selves of trauma survivors’. It totally describes the effects of my childhood trauma and my progress towards healing. Somehow I got in touch with some of my parts. It is through asking how they feel and want that I know how I feel and want. Such interesting and transformative insight. The neuroscience knowledge behind this gave me even more confidence that this is a breakthrough to help the victims of childhood abuse. It’s truly a life saving breakthrough.

Important work
Revisado: 03-03-23
This book is very important. As the author stated, child abuse is not rare but epidemic. About 1/3 of the abused become abusers. The suffering and cost are incalculable to both the individuals affected and the society. The treatment outlined has the great promise to not only reduce the suffering of the victims but reverse the life-limiting consequences.

Writer Peg Streep lays out seven distinct but interconnected stages on the path to reclaim your life from the effects of a toxic childhood: "discover", "discernment", "distinguish", "disarm", "reclaim", "redirect", and "recover". Each step is clearly explained and richly detailed with the stories of other women. With approaches drawn from psychology and other disciplines and with unique exercises, the book will help the listener tackle her own self-doubt and become consciously aware of how her mother's treatment continues to shape her behavior.

Courageous and compassionate
Revisado: 02-12-23
I have been looking for answers to my Mother Vile problem all my life. Several years ago I read the author's "Mean Mothers'. I didn't feel they explained the monster in my life too well, although it was still helpful. I'm grateful that the author's courage and integrity to focus a light on this important problem. Even though it didn't quite reach the depth of depravity of Mother Vile, the information on the effect of being an unloved daughter and ways to heal are still valuable.

Historia
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.

Intelligence, resilience, openness
Revisado: 05-04-22
I often wonder why some kids can transcend horrible experience, while others not as much. Research in this area suggest a significant figure in the child's life is an important factor. But Stephen didn't have that. Listening to how he tried to make sense of his harrowing situations, I realized Stephen indeed has a very gifted mind. He said he likes to think, and it shows in how he tried to make sense of his isolated surrounding from both inductive and deductive reasoning. His mind was open to kindness-thank goodness he didn't lose hope completely. Bravo Stephen. Bravo!

Important message
Revisado: 10-20-21
I whole-heartedly agree with his message about the wide gap between civilians and soldiers. Having read several books about soldiers experience in wars, I can't help to think how their mindset and experience forged in those most trying circumstances are valuable assets that most civilians fail to understand or appreciate. We thank the soldiers for their service and sacrifice as if they are now damaged goods. We do need to take care of those who have been wounded physically and mentally. However I believe civilians have much to learn from our soldiers: their skills, disciplines, perspectives.

Historia
When he opened the FBI investigation into Russia’s election interference, Peter Strzok had already spent more than two decades defending the United States against foreign threats. His career in counterintelligence ended shortly thereafter, when the Trump administration used his private expression of political opinions to force him out of the Bureau in August 2018. But by that time, Strzok had seen more than enough to convince him that the commander in chief had fallen under the sway of America’s adversary in the Kremlin.

Important read
Revisado: 09-17-20
I read several books on the Orange Sphincter Russian investigation. It's like doing homework, something I feel I should do but is painful at times. It saddens and angers me a great deal that our patriots are abused by the very Americans that they are trying to protect. I'm glad Peter narrates his own book. His belief in the rule of law is evident in his narration. Less than 50 days to the 2020 election, I'm both hopeful and scared about the election outcome. It's not just getting rid of orange anus. In the last 4 years, so many traitors were revealed. The country is rotten from within. Do we have enough patriots to take on the traitors? Can the good people win if the other side doesn't feel bounded by rule of law or incapable of basic reasoning?

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Why was this book banned?
Revisado: 08-16-20
From the little bit of reading I did of Mark Twain, I was not a fan. I must be too young to understand. This book is great. The narration is perfect. I understand the 'N' word is offensive but this writing was just reflecting the time then. The relationship between Huck and Jim gives me hope.
