Historia
If there’s one thing detective Bath Peter Diamond has no patience for, it’s a dumb git trying to get involved in one of his investigations - for example, a Philip Marlowe-wannabe private investigator like the self-styled Johnny Getz. But fate has saddled Diamond with this trial. A Bath antiques dealer, “Seppy” Hubbard, has disappeared without a trace, and his daughter has hired Getz to find him. When a body is discovered in Seppy’s locked-up store, the missing persons case becomes a murder investigation, and now Diamond has to collaborate with the insufferable private eye.

I think it works
Revisado: 11-17-24
Lovesey's departure from single narrative storytelling was risky, especially when introducing a stylistically expatriated character. He pulled it off for me. There was enough coninuity and familiarity with the developed characters and settings despite taking this creative liberty. Lovesey's technical skill as a professional writer is evident or it could have been a serious misstep. I have seen other authors stray, perhaps due to being out of touch with their fans or becoming hyperpolitical, with often disastrous results. The Eye is great fun, excellent variety, and also a satisfying Diamond novel.

Historia
There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

One of the greats falls down
Revisado: 12-24-21
Seems like the most talented and informed artusts fall down hardest when fame goes to their heads. Connelly should have known better; maybe he should consider reviewing his own work without his yes-men handling it for him. When you're a fan and you get burned by the one you admire it's hard to envision giving them a second chance. This work is formulaic drivel phoned-in to make deadline or quarterly sales goal from a formerly accomplished writer. Unless you are an unabashed supporter of badly written propaganda to support a cause at any price don't waste your time with what masquerades as credible detective fiction. I'm stunned and resentful at the deterioration of quality in Connelly's writing.
