Historia
Among the most consistent and aggressive criticisms of Donald Trump is that he is a threat to American democracy - a human wrecking ball demolishing our most basic values and institutions. Resistance (at All Costs) makes the opposite case - that it is Trump's critics, in their zeal to oppose the president, who are undermining our foundations.

Way too partisan! A chore to get through!
Revisado: 07-25-24
I'm a Republican and this book was a chore to get through. I understand that we have disfunction in our two party system, but using the argument that anyone who calls out Trump on his many issues is a "hater", or is a member of the "resistance " that is destroying our country is hogwash! Trump is the one who continues to stoke the fire of "fake-news", a "deep-state", multiple conspiracy theories, etc. The author uses the same argument used by the far-left in ad nauseam, that anyone who takes a different political stance on an issue is a "hater". On the far-left if you espouse traditional marriage or believe there are only two genders you are labeled a "hater". On the far-right if you stand up to Trump or resist him in any way you are labeled a "hater". Well, I'm not a hater, but I am a "disliker", and I dislike Trump just like I dislike the far-left agenda! I also disliked this book.

Historia
The story of Donald Trump’s rise to power is the story of a buried American history - buried because people in power liked it that way. It was visible without being seen, influential without being named, ubiquitous without being overt. Sarah Kendzior’s Hiding in Plain Sight pulls back the veil on a history spanning decades, a history of an American autocrat in the making. In doing so, she reveals how our continual loss of freedom, the rise of consolidated corruption, and the secrets behind a burgeoning autocratic United States have been hiding in plain sight for decades.

Author too Sanctimonious
Revisado: 10-10-22
I struggled to finish this book, so I increased the reading speed significantly. I classify my political leaning as center-right. I didn't vote for Trump and I will never vote for him or any of his autocratic minions. Unfortunately, the author comes across as so self-righteous and left-leaning that I had a hard time focusing on the danger that Trump and his cohorts are to America. The book ends on a depressing note that our kids will never know how life used to be before Trump. However, when the author talks about life before Trump she constantly focuses on America's failings with slavery, racism, white privilege, etc. It would have been nice to have some focus on how the Constitution allows America to continue to reinvent itself and not to be weighed down by its past, but instead to learn from the past and work to build a better future for all. Instead, the author seems to focus mostly on America's ills, its former slave holding leaders, and how she was one of the few people to have seen Trump for who he really was - an autocratic narcissist. Heck, I remember telling my family and friends (mostly republicans) that I would never vote for Trump, because his desire was not to be president but to be king! Suffice it to say that the book would have been better if the author hadn't come across as so sanctimonious.

Exceptionally Well Done!
Revisado: 03-11-20
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. Not only was the subject matter interesting, but the author did a superb job narrating it! It is comforting to know there are good, strong, dedicated men and women serving in harm's way to keep America safe! Well done Admiral McRaven! 5 Stars!!!

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Historia
A dramatic account of the historic 1986 Reagan-Gorbachev summit in Iceland - the turning point in the Cold War - by Ken Adelman, Reagan's arms control director and a key player in that weekend's world-changing events. In October 1986, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev met for a forty-eight-hour summit in Reykjavik, Iceland. Planned as a short gathering to outline future talks, the meeting quickly turned to major international issues, including SDI ("Star Wars") and the possibility of eliminating all nuclear weapons.
