Historia
They say Black Dow has killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand by smiling while Black Dow claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

A good Abercrombie read
Revisado: 04-06-11
I enjoyed it. While i agree that Mr. Pacey is an astonishingly good narrator, I cannot fault Michael Page. Yes, the transition from Pacey to Page was a bit jarring, but i think the negative reviews based on that are unfair. The novel is a good read. Its a bit more superficial then the trilogy, but thats ok.
However, i would like to see Joe Abercrombie try his hand at a new project. I am satisfied with having the Heroes as the conclusion to this set of books, and think i might hesitate to buy another novel set in this particular world.

An enjoyable read, but not for the delicate
Revisado: 04-06-11
I have long been a fan of Richard Morgan. Altered Carbon, Broken Angels etc, excellent reads. Morgan has never been afraid to add gritty realism to his characters and stories, often displaying a dirty underside which adds spice and life to his creations. The Steel Remains is not cyber punk, it is set as a more traditional style fantasy world. His writing is as enjoyable as ever, and as ever he doesn't shy away from violence or sex if he feels it is called for in the narrative. In this particular novel, one of the main protagonists engages in several graphically represented same sex acts. This is isn't simply shock value, the sexual orientation of the character impacts very directly on the plot and motives.
However it may gall me, I do think some readers should be warned about the graphic homosexuality in the novel, as many of the fans of the fantasy genre (I was going to say hard core fantasy but decided against it) may not expect to find content of this nature.
That being said, please do not get the impression that the novel is rife with sex. It is an excellent read/listen, well written, great story and great narration. I recommend it to any mature fans of gritty fantasy writing. Any Joe Abercrombie fans should also enjoy this novel.

Historia
Bartimaeus, everyones favorite (wise-cracking) djinni, is back in book four of this best-selling series. As alluded to in the footnotes throughout the series, Bartimaeus has served hundreds of magicians during his 5,010 year career. Now, for the first time, fans will go back in time with the djinni, to Jerusalem and the court of King Solomon in 950s BC. Only in this adventure, it seems the great Bartimaeus has finally met his match.

Fantastic
Revisado: 02-05-11
A great addition to the "trilogy" this prequel gives us more Bartimaeus in all his self aggrandizing and sarcastic glory. This novel is found in the young adults section, but truly it's for any age. I have listened to the whole series a few times now purely to enjoy bartimaeus' snarky wit. Simon Jones is the perfect narrator for the characters as well. Top notch!

Absolutely terrible.
Revisado: 02-05-11
When Sanderson took over for Jordan i had high hopes for the series. The 11th book appeared to be very encouraging. However, after listening to about 1/3 of this novel, i realized that Sanderson had contributed very little to the writing of the 11th novel. The 12th however, appears to be mostly his doing, and he should be ashamed to put his name on the work. It is a terrible disservice to Mr.Jordan, and his fantastic story. After attempting to get through this much longed for novel, i gave up.

After a very long time how wonderful to have more Miles! LMB certainly hasn't lost her touch, and once again Mr. Gardener delivers an excellent performance. A top notch addition to the Vorkosigan collection.
If you are new to the Vorkosigan series, you may want to start with Shards of Honor or The warriors apprentice.

Historia
Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Revisado: 07-04-10
Finest author in the genre. This is not a novel for children, or for fans of unicorns and pixies. As fantasy books go, Mr Abercrombie writes his novels with an amazingly realistic portrayal of his many flawed but entertaining characters. Dark, gritty full of black humor, these books actually get better as the series progresses. Fantastic narration.

Uninspired at best. Brown attempts to carry on his formula for success, with terrible results. I feel for the narrator, who did the best with the material he had to work with. I simply could not force myself to finish this book.

A bit dry, but delivers what it offers
Revisado: 11-26-08
Its a Space Opera, without the drama or character depth. More like - a space musical featuring elevator muzak. No depth to the characters, a very dry delivery. I like my Space buccaneers to serve up a little emotional depth with their plasma cannons.
I finished it, it wasn't terrible, but i won't be getting the rest of the series.

I have trying so hard to finish this book. After my glowing praise of the first books in the series, some part of me has a driving need to complete the set. However, it is very, very difficult.
I enjoyed the other books, even when they dragged in places. This last installment dragged from the start, and hasn't let up yet. Do yourself a favor, stop at the 6th book.
