Not quite as good as the first...
Revisado: 09-11-12
I will preface this by saying that it's been a while since I listened to the first book.
That said, I remember the first book being more exciting, with more unexpected plot twists and less weird steampunk inventions. I definitely still enjoyed the way Books and Braun work seamlessly together. The baddies in this book just didn't seem bad enough, and the motives were unclear even at the end. I will probably listen to the next book if there is one just to see if the story gets better but I hope there are less silly steampunk inventions and more action-packed crime solving.

More exciting than The Edge!
Revisado: 09-06-12
I loved the first book in this series, The Edge. This one is very similar in the whole begrudging love plot, but the villains are more interesting and the action is a bit more exciting. I really enjoyed it, even if it was a little bit predictable. The narration could've been better.

Revisado: 09-05-12
I loved every book in this series. I enjoyed every character, even the baddies. My favorite part of this one was definitely watching Roman's character develop and evolve. I think the ending was absolutely perfect. This series had me laughing and crying through every book and the conclusion was neat and satisfying without seeming rushed or contrived.

A fantastic story from beginning to end
Revisado: 08-28-12
I will definitely listen to this book more than once. From the first few minutes I was sure it would become one of my favorites.
The array of accents Susan Duerden perfectly performed was impressive, and she made each character come to life. I agree with another reviewer that the lack of a love story made this book even better. The dry, sarcastic humor kept me chuckling and the action-packed scenes were wonderfully balanced with the intermittent letters from Thomas to herself. It had a relatively complex plot that was fun to follow and twists and turns that I never would've expected.
I would recommend this to any paranormal mystery fan, especially fans of The Dresden Files. The humor is very much the same and I came to think of Thomas as the female equivalent of Dresden. I can't wait to see what Daniel O'Malley comes up with next!

I can always count on Molly Harper's books when I need to laugh out loud. As always, this example of her work is sharp, sarcastic and hilarious. I loved this side story of the Dead Girls Don't series, and I can't wait to see what she writes next. It has romance, action, a bit of mystery and loads of charm.

Even better than A Discovery of Witches
Revisado: 07-11-12
This is a beautifully written series so far. Deborah Harkness takes you right into the 16th century. The plot is complex but not confusing, and the narration is excellent. The variety of accents Jennifer Ikeda conveyed was impressive without being overly theatrical. This is a vivid, enchanting story. The array of personalities was engaging, each character seemed well thought out and had a depth that was really refreshing. If you liked the first book you will certainly enjoy this one.
