Yuck- waste time
Revisado: 07-13-23
The reviews were so good that I kept listening, help paying for some redemption by the end of the book. I could not stand a listen to how awful the family members were to each other. It’s probably supposed to be a comedy but I don’t find horrible people amusing. This was definitely not for me. Yuck. .

Disappointing.
Revisado: 06-22-23
This course was done in 2013, after the banking crash of 2007-8 and before the full recovery from the great recession. And yet he says, he doubts there will be any more severe downturns in the future.
He clearly is biased against regulation, especially the Glass-Steagall Act. As we all now know, including economists, do regulating banking caused the housing crash of 2007-8 and recession following.
After the crash of 2008, even diehard supply side, a trickle down, economist changed their mind about the bank deregulation and supply side economics (aka trickle-down). His doom and gloom about Medicare and Social Security are pretty pathetic. That would be very easy to fix by raising or eliminating the income cap on FICA taxes. Another thing he got wrong was the oil embargo in the 1970s. He said if it was the cause of the US troubles, then why didn’t the rest of the world suffer as well? Because the oil embargo is specifically Against the US. But he was just a child when that happened. I found much about this Disappointing. Because if I didn’t know anything about economics, I would have enjoyed it more.

Our understanding of the American West has moved far beyond pop culture in recent years. The legendary people and events we associate with the Wild West - the last stand at the Alamo, the Battle of Little Bighorn, the exploits of Calamity Jane, the hardships of the Oregon Trail - are even more fascinating once the historical realities have been separated from the myths.

Historia
Hated and hailed, excoriated and revered, Abraham Lincoln was at the pinnacle of American power when secessionists gave no quarter in a clash of visions bound up with money, race, identity, and faith. In him we can see the possibilities of the presidency as well as its limitations. This book tells the story of Lincoln from his birth on the Kentucky frontier to his leadership during the Civil War to his tragic assassination: his rise, his self-education, his loves, his bouts of depression, his political failures, his deepening faith, and his persistent conviction that slavery must end.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Hated it but needed commentary.
Revisado: 02-27-22
It’s so depressing the whole way through, it was all I could do to slog through it. Is over exaggerated commentary of society and dozen control is worth it worth contemplating. Time that he wrote us was pretty paranoid of communism and any form of socialism. Unders stand the extremism of this book, I think One has to understand that hatred and paranoia of fascism and communism.
