Ok. The author of this book is really messed up in the head. I'm going to tell you why, but first let me review the book as a whole. It's pointless filler garbage. The plot doesn't advance at all. The characters are just retold what they already know. I have a feeling that future books will be the same. Here's the major spoiler so you don't bother reading this waste of time: the Earth Hector is from was also a simulation. My guess is that the author was going to spend 2 more books revealing this over and over again, but BOOM, you done got spoiled.

Now my biggest WTF about this book. It goes hardcore into bestiality and incest. This may be passable if this was a harem book, but its not. Most of it is about civil engineering. The only explaination given is that it is expected. I am seriously wondering if the author was/is part of the Children of God cult. I am picking up the same vibes. I almost literally vomited after the main character busted his 3 month daughter's hymen (an unnecessary detail in the book). He says, and I quote, "Let's get tidbits [food] for my Tidbit." What the actual f@@@@! The book is confirming that main character just had sex with someone he still sees as his daughter.

I'm out. If you like the narration team and the premise of the book, I would recommend Dungeon Lord. It has a story that actually progresses.

This book was extremely disappointing and mostly filler. I was surprised when I saw that there was an hour left, because nothing significant had happened yet. The only thing that happened was gross.

Remember in Twilight how Jacob imprints himself on a BABY and the world reasonably went up in arms against the notion. Well, this book tries to do the same thing, but with the baby imprinting on the adult. The justifications given are 1. that it is liberating 2. it is expected. What the actual F@ck? The situation is extra gross when the adult raised the baby (less than 3 months old BTW). I dont know what rlse to say but why?

Shad seems to be a genuinely nice fellow from his YouTube channel, which led me to read his book. Unfortunately, it isn't well written in my opinion. There are large plot holes that go unaddressed throughout the entire book, which frustrated me. I would have stopped reading if not for liking the author. I will talk about them in a spoiler section.

This is pronounced by the awkward conversations. Rape is a constant topic in the book. You know how in porn everything leads to sex? It's forced and stretches the limits of suspended disbelief. The same is true for this book, but exchange sex for rape. The story revolves around the subject for over 10 hours. I quit reading several times to give myself a break. It doesn't even go in depth on the subject except "rape is bad." Again, I will go into this in a much needed spoiler section.

I would have given this book a 2/5, but it somewhat saves itself in the literal last hour.

Prespoiler points:

Having 2 narrators was unnecessary. They even overlap awkwardly.

HUGE plotholes.

Awkward topics.

I will cover EXTREME spoilers after the break. So if you are still interested in reading the book, stop here.

The biggest problem I had with this book was how self righteous the main character is. Sure he turns himself in at the end, but everyone seemed ok with him not turning himself in until he did, which came relatively out of nowhere. The character just decided that he was wrong instantaneously.

The reasoning for him to be a vigilante is to do some good. Literally, the same mentality that lead him to commit mass genocide in the past. He doesn't even give up his wealth to help other people, until he turns himself in at the very end. He stole billions of dollars, but didn't feel the need to give it back. Our hero(?) everyone.

It would have been better if he had no other choice, but the book gives him multiple alternatives. He could have become a knight or monk. You might have argued they would have kept him back, but he still had an obvious plot derailing option beyond that. He could have joined the Dawnists.

The book describes them as having the same values as the main character. Daylin hated the Dawn Empire, because he hated what it became. The Dawnist didnt like that view of the empire either. They just wanted to bring back the social welfare issues it was built on. The book spends a chapter explaining this. If the main character really wanted to do some good he would have taken over the Dawnists and set them on a correct course. Instead, we get Murder Hobo Batman who claims true justice.

Speaking of which, why does everything in this would involve rape. Why is the government bad? Rape. Why is the main character bad? Rape. Why is brutally murdering people ok? Rape. Rape. Rape. If everything is so bad in the country that everyone is openly getting raped, maybe the Dawnists weren't bad but misguided. Ironically, they seemed to be the only ones not involved with rape.

Finally, I don't have an issue with the main character being over powered. He's an anime character; I get it. I do have an issue with characters acting like he isnt OP sometimes. By the end he practically had more powers than Superman. Yet, he still walked around as a guy with a sword. Why? He is literally a GOD and he ends up taking taxis to get places. What!? The entire story would have ended within a day if he had just speed jumped to the capital.

The author had some good ideas, but I feel like they were lost in stories that he wanted to tell regardless of circumstances.

Robert Greenberg has a reputation as perhaps the best music history teacher alive today. He has been interviewed by numerous famous people interested in the subject inscluding Larry King. Greenberg's humor brings the history to life, and this course is a prime example.

Most of the story is about all the stuff the main character has accumulated in her house. The ending will also leave you feeling hollow and maybe even hate the main character.

I think what will turn people off for this book is that it is written in prose. The writting is very evocative, reminiscent of poetry. Sometimes its written in present tense, sometimes past tense.

However, if you look past the messiah complex of the author, you have to respect the man. Russel is extremely dedicated in this book to respecting people from a wide variety of backgrounds. I may not agree with the conclusion he came to (Marxist Theocracy, yes really), but I do respect the he seems very genuine and authentic. Not to mention he came to his conclusion with good intentions.

Its an enjoyable read.

Good writing and great characters. I still recommend if you havent seen Sound Booth Studio record the audio for these to check them out. They obviously have a blast doing them.

The narrator of the story is simply amazing. He creates distinct voices for all of the male characters. His female counterpart does the same. You can actually watch them create the recording for this book on their Youtube channel.

The story is really good. You'll need experience in role playing games to fully appreciate it though.

Daniel Robinson has solidified himself as my favorite Great Courses lecturer. Deeply thought provoking and engaging, the course adresses how we treat people who are not cognitively "all there".
