Historia
In Connectography, visionary strategist Parag Khanna travels from Ukraine to Iran, Mongolia to North Korea, Pakistan to Nigeria, and across the Arctic Circle to explain the unprecedented changes affecting every part of the planet. He shows how militaries are deployed to protect supply chains as much as borders, and how nations are less at war over territory than engaged in tugs-of-war over pipelines, railways, shipping lanes, and Internet cables. The new arms race is to connect to the most markets.

Fascinating and very current book
Revisado: 09-19-22
Loved this book. Great narration, story, and content was extremely interesting and well-researched. Never thought of connectivity as networking. Learned so much. The author did an excellent job laying out a lot of information in an organized and thought-provoking way. Very relevant to current events and provides lots of examples of different ways cities, countries, corporations, and people connect to each other. Flew through it - easy listen and well-written.

Historia
California now has more trees than at any time since the late Pleistocene. This green landscape, however, is not the work of nature. It’s the work of history. In the years after the Gold Rush, American settlers remade the California landscape, harnessing nature to their vision of the good life. Horticulturists, boosters, and civic reformers began to "improve" the bare, brown countryside, planting millions of trees to create groves, wooded suburbs, and landscaped cities.

Revisado: 08-27-22
Well-researched, easy listen, and really interesting.. Topics /4 chapters were clearly defined and laid out . Surprising and interesting how much of California’s trees are non-indigenous and how much humans changed the environment in such a short time.

In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Amazing book - entertaining, interesting, and well read
Revisado: 08-19-21
Great book. Provides just enough detail without getting to political. Interesting facts and information is weaved in and well told and read story of Obama’s early life up through his 3rd year in office. Made me think about being president in a whole new way and reminded me why it is so important to have a leader that respects our history and triumphs their causes to drive change, fight social injustice, and protect the equality and freedom of everyone. I have a new perspective on the role of the Commander in Chief and the fantastic pressures they face. It’s truly impressive how Obama maintained such a stoic demeanor as he secretly grabbled with tough decisions and carried the weight of the world on his shoulders, knowing the chaos and danger in the world around us. I enjoyed hearing about his goals and beliefs, the reasons behind his decisions, the struggles and criticism he faced, and his triumphs in which he helped pass new laws, bills, and legislation to give people a better, healthier life with freedom to all. I can’t wait for his next book, highly recommended!

Wonderful book and performance
Revisado: 06-23-21
A perfect book to listen to at the end of day. Poetically written in prose. Very interesting content that is exceptionally well-written. Enjoyed all the different aspects of life that are discussed and interwoven into various sections that center around some type of tree and/or ecosystem. Great performance - narration is soothing and flows at the right pace. Easy to understand and drift off to sleep with or relax with when you’re in the mood for something more mellow.

In Other Minds, Peter Godfrey-Smith, a distinguished philosopher of science and a skilled scuba diver, tells a bold new story of how subjective experience crept into being—how nature became aware of itself. As Godfrey-Smith stresses, it is a story that largely occurs in the ocean, where animals first appeared.

Beginning with Mt. Vesuvius, whose eruption in Roman times helped spark the science of geology, and ending in a lab in the West of England where mathematical models and lab experiments replace direct observation, Richard Fortey tells us what the present says about ancient geologic processes. He shows how plate tectonics came to rule the geophysical landscape and how the evidence is written in the hills and in the stones. And in the process, he takes us on a wonderful journey around the globe to visit some of the most fascinating and intriguing spots on the planet.

Historia
Published in 1951, The Sea Around Us is one of the most remarkably successful books ever written about the natural world. This classic work remains as fresh today as when it first appeared. Carson's writing teems with stunning, memorable images - the newly formed Earth cooling beneath an endlessly overcast sky, the centuries of nonstop rain that created the oceans, giant squids battling sperm whales hundreds of fathoms below the surface, and incredibly powerful tides moving 100 billion tons of water daily in the Bay of Fundy.

Well written and an easy listen
Revisado: 03-27-21
Very beautifully written and presented. While content was ecological, geological, and scientific, book reads in an almost prose-like rhythm and is almost poetic.
Found the first part or book 1 to be a bit slower and harder to get into, but couldn’t stop listening to part/book 2 and 3. Recommended for anyone that wants to learn more about the ocean. My only criticism was very minor about narration - sounds like the author is puckering her lips together after the longer sentences. Overall, very informative and highly suggest for all audiences.
