Love the story - not a fan of the graphic audios
Revisado: 02-21-25
Huge fan of the audio books. And Nicole Poole does an amazing job giving the characters unique and interesting voices.
I was excited for the graphic audio versions because I love listening to live actors too... But it's pretty tough to get through these.
Some of the voices are just too irritating - like Niamh.
And now Broken Sue? Is Scottish? seriously? why? just why? where did that even come from?

Disappointing change in narrator
Revisado: 09-06-24
This one was long... too many characters with conflicting paths. Seems like she's writing more twists and turns just to make longer books. It might be that I'm getting bored with the series... But the narrator change was the last bit that puts me off. The narrator was fine... just not Eve and others.

Historia
Every town has its secrets, but no one has a secret like hers. Amber Blackwood, lifelong resident of Edgehill, Oregon, has earned a reputation for being a semi-reclusive odd duck. Her store The Quirky Whisker is full of curiosities, from extremely potent sleepy teas and ever-burning candles to kids' toys that seem to run endlessly without the aid of batteries. The people of Edgehill think of the Quirky Whisker as an integral part of their feline-obsessed town, but most give Amber herself a wide berth.

Story was weak and narration didn’t help
Revisado: 12-08-22
The only reason I listened to all three was because I’d spent a credit. The “cat” theme was clever and made for interesting names for events and places, but the dialog was simplistic and weak. And why did the narrator elect to use a (really bad) southern accent for some of the characters. It’s Oregon not Alabama.

Historia
Melissa Craig is absolutely delighted with her new life in an old crumbling cottage, spending her days pruning the primroses and getting to know Binkie, the ginger cat next door. She only wishes she had made the move to the countryside sooner. But when a knock at the door brings news of a shocking discovery, she suddenly finds herself thrown in to the middle of a baffling mystery: the bones of a young woman have been found in the woods just behind her new home. Perhaps the little village of Upper Bembury is not as idyllic as it first seemed? Strange phone calls in the night convince Melissa that the police are barking up completely the wrong tree, so she can’t resist doing a little digging of her own. From the bingo hall to the beauty salon and beyond, her search ruffles a few feathers and uncovers many of the village’s most scandalous secrets, but gets her no closer to finding the culprit.

Just couldn’t...
Revisado: 08-24-20
Barely made it through. The story was mediocre with an uncharismatic heroine. But the narration made it completely dreadful. The squeaky voice she used for the male characters made everyone sound like they were 100 years old. No more of this series for me. Waste of a credit.

What an awesome return to the world created in His Dark Materials trilogy! Filled in several gaps in Lyra's backstory and the rise of the Magisterium. Michael Sheen's narration was incredible; he brought the characters to life. Can't wait for the next installment!

Expected More... Disappointed
Revisado: 08-29-15
I love Brandon Sanderson but this was a disappointment. I kept wondering if he wrote this when he was a kid! The dialog was poorly constructed, and the characters often used language that didn't jibe with the setting.
The poor dialog was exacerbated by the dreadful reader! I almost sent it back several times because Yaegashi's interpretation was so awful.
The overall storyline was pretty intense, and I liked the world that Sanderson created. Just wish he would have taken a little more care with the finishing touches.

When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves.

I almost sent this one back... Changes to Biffy and Dama were almost too much! I kept listening because I liked the new characters and, once it was just them, it was easier to listen. Hope the reader reviews the characters before the next installment!

Historia
Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.
