Historia
Titus Crown is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County, Virginia. In recent decades, quiet Charon has had only two murders. But after years of working as an FBI agent, Titus knows better than anyone that while his hometown might seem like a land of moonshine, cornbread, and honeysuckle, secrets always fester under the surface. Then a year to the day after Titus’s election, a school teacher is killed by a former student and the student is fatally shot by Titus’s deputies. As Titus investigates the shootings, he unearths terrible crimes.

This was the listen of the summer
Revisado: 07-09-23
1st - the narrator was AAHHMAZZING! The nuanced voice changes/emotion for each character were on point. The implied weight of being black in the south came through. It was a pleasure to listen.
2nd - I liked the story, even through the darkness of the storyline. However, it felt like some detail just appeared and didn’t evolve. Regardless, the character development was the focus and it hit on all cylinders. This was my first read with this author and I’ll be adding more to my library. The story grew on me and by the end I loved it and the refreshingly realistic wrap up…thanks for the listen!

“I’m sorry but the answer’s no.” Reluctant author, Anthony Horowitz, has had enough. He tells ex-detective Daniel Hawthorne that after three books he’s splitting and their deal is over. The truth is that Anthony has other things on his mind. His new play, a thriller called Mindgame, is about to open at the Vaudeville Theater in London’s West End. Not surprisingly, Hawthorne declines a ticket to the opening night. The play is panned by the critics. In particular, Sunday Times critic Margaret Throsby gives it a savage review, focusing particularly on the writing.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Revisado: 03-03-23
Great book. I picked up most of the whodunits but wished more had been fleshed out about the killers character…and for Ben…the why would have made this perfect!

Didn’t see it coming!
Revisado: 02-19-23
Enjoyed the book. However, it felt like there was some rapid closure as the wrap up wasn’t indicated throughout the story. The references were vague and it was connecting dots with a wide magic marker. I enjoyed it but the ending felt very rushed.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 10-04-22
I enjoyed the book. There were a few gaps in the plot like but not enough to impact the listen. Okay, there were holes and LIMITED character development but I would read the next one. However…90% of the book I HATED the narrator’s voice. It was irritating, distracting and I welcomed any times the main character wasn’t speaking. Seriously, the frat boy nonchalant arrogance was awful. The 10% was great when he was humble and with family. If that was the intent-questionable!
It was unneeded distraction but then maybe it distracted from the holes in the story.

But everything comes crashing to a halt when Hannah receives a panicked call from her sister Andrea - Mayor Richard Bascomb has been murdered...and Andrea is the prime suspect. Even with his reputation for being a bully, Mayor Bascomb - or “Ricky Ticky”, as Hannah’s mother likes to call him - had been unusually testy in the days leading up to his death, leaving Hannah to wonder if he knew he was in danger.

Average and Irritating
Revisado: 03-03-22
The story is average but the distraction I was looking for. The narrator is average but nails the regional accents. The problem is the recipes. They should have been an addendum to the audio AND a PDF for future reference. At the LEAST the chapter headers should tell you what recipes are within. Hi wants to listen to the story all over to manually write the recipes? Who wants to spend half their commute time listening to the recipes. They last forever. Lastly, even if you fast forward they aren’t synced so you miss story or MUST listen to the recipe. A strategic fail and so irritating I returned the other books without listening. I rather have my credits back than sit through more hours of recipes I can’t write while walking, driving, hiking etc …I’ll stick ti Hallmark channel. Very disappointed. Very.

Predictable
Revisado: 12-12-21
The story is weak, obvious and predictable. It’s not the worst part. That would be the narrator. The over pronunciations are as bad as the kindergarten teacher voice. Only because I always finish my books did I keep going. Save your credit. I feel foolish for having gotten this referral from an article. It’s just not good fluff. I apologize for the negative review. Not my typical nature but this was just numbing.

THIS!!!!
Revisado: 09-27-20
The narrator was AWESOME!
The story started slowly meandering and weaving...yet fully and richly resolving itself. I’m not a twin but I have a sister and I found us in the story. I found my daughter and I as well. It was moving, reflective of the time and just...GOOD. As I said...THIS!!!

For many years she manages to live under the radar, keeping her dark secret unknown to those around her. However, gradually her evil side gains strength until Dr Jekyll is overwhelmed by Eleanor Hyde, to disastrous consequences. An exploration of human duality and forces of good and evil, this modern retelling is compelling and eerie and retains the disturbing nature of the original text.
