Historia
Housekeeper Phyllida Bright is quite in her element at Mallowan Hall, the charming English manor that she keeps in tip-top shape. By contrast, the bustling metropolis of London, where her famed employer Agatha Christie has temporarily relocated, leaves Phyllida a bit out of her depth. Not only must she grapple with a limited staff, but Phyllida also has to rein in a temperamental French cook who has the looks of Hercule Poirot, but none of the charm.

Strong female lead who bucks the system. I’m glad that the backstory doesn’t overshadow the murder mystery. They are very well written!!

A Delightfully Untroubling Murder Mystery!
Revisado: 03-19-24
Sometimes the mysteries I read are dark with complex characters as protagonists that are stressingly headed toward heartbreak. This book was not and I throughly enjoyed it. It was well thought out and cleverly written. Amusing without being forced.
I could read with the confidence that no one was going to be tortured and the cute little dog was not going to be dramatically killed off. No tears—just simple enjoyment!

Silly, theatrical voice
Revisado: 07-01-23
A great mystic voice like a movie from the 40's did an into that I couldn't seem to opt out of. Then the sounds of babbling water were fine until 5 hours into my night's sleep. The same silly voice come on and had a monologue that was an intellectual discussion of his view of the word. I couldn't get it to turn off. I was the most annoyed that I could be with Audible. That abrupt end to the relaxing sounds should have been in the description and that overly theatrical voice should be in the sample.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Not my genre at all
Revisado: 11-13-17
In fairness to the talented people responsible, I have never read or watched a science fiction monster book or film but this was free so what the heck. My husband thought that I was listening to an old radio broadcast and came to listen also. We talked about the action all the way through..one bad thing followed by an awful thing. We really enjoyed it but we chucked all the way through and I'm not sure that was how we were supposed to be enjoying it. I really don't like cliffhanger endings but this one didn't bother me because it reminded me of being a kid again and sneaking my radio under the covers so I could listen to the old radio drama without my parents catching me :) AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Any additional comments?
The mystery kept me guessing until close to the end and the story between the older detective and his firebrand sergeant is an interesting development. I find the sergeant really amusing and likable. I was listening with headphones while I moved around the house and my spouse kept interrupting me to ask why I was chucking. I have already downloaded the third book for later this weekend!

An amusing and well written mystery
Revisado: 01-09-16
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This was a good mystery that kept me guessing. The interaction between the characters and the dialog was amusing and well written. I bought the first three books of the series a while ago but decided to wait for the Audible recording to be released when I heard a sample of the narrator...and I am very glad that I did. He does a very good job of all of the diverse characters.
Any additional comments?
This author is very creative about finding characters who are just a bit different and making them endearing. I have already started listening to the second book in the series.

Historia
The Jackson women, Indiana and Amanda, have always had each other. Though their bond is strong, mother and daughter are as different as night and day. Indiana, a beautiful holistic healer, is a free-spirited bohemian. Long divorced from Amanda's father, she's reluctant to settle down with either of the men who want her - Alan, the wealthy scion of one of San Francisco's elite families, and Ryan, an enigmatic, scarred former Navy SEAL. While her mom looks for the good in people, Amanda is fascinated by the dark side of human nature - as is her father, the SFPD's deputy chief of homicide.

Interesting Concept
Revisado: 10-08-14
Any additional comments?
I selected this book because I enjoyed an earlier book that she wrote. I was disappointed in this one, though I did like part of the story line. I liked the group of diverse kids from around the world working to solve murders but the author only half developed their characters. I thought that part could have been an interesting study; however, mother was an unreal, flat character. The one legged Navy Seal with the dog with metal teeth was like something thrown in from an action/fantasy story and his relationship with the mother just didn't fit with the rest of the storyline.

Unnecessary Language
Revisado: 09-30-14
What would have made A Serpent's Tooth better?
I'm not a prude but I found the undersecretary's constant use of the 'fucking' in everyday speech distracting to the story. The hero does not require constant cussing to show his competence. Really it is like the author thinks the only way to have a strong woman character is for her to use shocking language when no one else does...it is so distracting that I am not going to finish listening and try to return it.
Has A Serpent's Tooth turned you off from other books in this genre?
I won't try this author again
What three words best describe George Guidall’s voice?
very pleasant voice
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from A Serpent's Tooth?
the story was slow moving and the hero's motivation was murky but that may be because I got a book in the middle of the series.

Trapped by the storm which cuts off electricity and downs phone lines, Maggy ventures into the service corridor that connects Uncommon Grounds to the rest of the mall, looking for sustenance beyond espresso and pastries.

Revisado: 02-08-14
What made the experience of listening to Brewed, Crude and Tattooed the most enjoyable?
The series is well written and engaging...a really good listen that is amusing and fast paced.
What did you like best about this story?
This book was a little different since they were snowed in the shopping center most of the time.
What about Karen Savage’s performance did you like?
Ms. Savage's narration is one of the best that I have listened to. She does an excellent job with the different characters and it is fascinating that she can make each voice recognizable.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I started the book while on the treadmill and had to force myself to stop after 45 minutes. Had to force myself to stop.
