Historia
In the canton of Yarrowdale, at the very edge of the Empire’s reach, a Treasury officer has disappeared into thin air—vanishing from a room within a heavily guarded tower, its door and windows locked from the inside. To solve the case, the Empire calls on its most brilliant and mercurial detective, the great Ana Dolabra. At her side, as always, is her bemused assistant Dinios Kol. Ana soon discovers that they are investigating not a disappearance but a murder—and one of surpassing cunning, carried out by an opponent who can pass through warded doors like a ghost.

Historia
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché. But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda....

A good first novel
Revisado: 09-04-24
I listen to the audio version narrated by four different people. I think it was very well done as an audible book. That’s why I gave the performance five stars.
Clearly the author is good at surprises & Cliffhangers and numerous twists and turns I didn’t expect. I was taking aback on the number of occasions.
I enjoyed the book and it was a quick read for the airport and summer reading.
I’m looking forward to the other two novels that he has published. I’m sure his style will be similar and so therefore it’ll be interesting to see what twists and turns the stories take. Paul Floyd Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A bit hard to follow at times and it seemed long, so glad I listened to the story
Revisado: 06-19-23
I always like to read a police procedural or mystery series from the beginning. it’s always the best way for me to get into a series. Here, Joe Nesbo's writing is good to very good job. Exceptional in some places. A bit odd though to begin a series with a person from Norway, going to Australia, and writing the story in the context of Australia. But I guess you gotta start some place. I’m off to the second novel that takes place in Thailand, entitled cockroach. And then I can’t wait to get into the remaining of the 11 or so novels.

Historia
It's been centuries since the robots of Panga gained self-awareness and laid down their tools; centuries since they wandered, en masse, into the wilderness, never to be seen again; centuries since they faded into myth and urban legend. One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Interesting
Revisado: 09-17-22
The nice thing about science fiction, and listening to a novel or novelette is that you can in your mind conjure up whatever type of creature are being in like. So not knowing that DEX was from the authors point of view non-binary, I just assumed that DEX was a multi creature entity. And that they worked as a collective unit or Whole. This idea Works throughout the entire novel. I don’t see Dex as an individual. I see Dex as a collective. In fact, it makes Dex much more interesting as a tea monk. I can see another Individual approaching a collective Tea monk for advice. It’s science fiction after all.

Historia
George Smiley is no one's idea of a spy - which is perhaps why he's such a natural. But Smiley apparently made a mistake. After a routine security interview, he concluded that the affable Samuel Fennan had nothing to hide. Why, then, did the man from the Foreign Office shoot himself in the head only hours later? Or did he? The heart-stopping tale of intrigue that launched both novelist and spy, Call for the Dead is an essential introduction to le Carre's chillingly amoral universe.

Very good but a bite convoluted ….still it’s a first novel
Revisado: 02-10-22
An interesting take on an English quaint village murder mystery. The characters for two women to men are interesting in the context is also well set out. There are a number of British slang terms and idioms that we here in the states do not automatically pick up on. But with a touch of a button dictionary‘s are helpful to fill in the blanks. The weird part about this book is that the audible version did not exactly follow the book version I followed along in the book as the narrator read the story. However they were changes throughout the book that didn’t make any sense in terms of trying to reach either an American audience or a English audience. For example the word supermarket was changed to Asda ASDA. That’s a grocery store chain in England. But why would you change supermarket to ask her if you’re trying to make it more generic? Same with the term Starbucks it was deleted and replaced with Costco or Kaasa I didn’t understand what the word was or what they were trying to say. Starbucks is ubiquitous the other word is meaningless for most people in the English-speaking world. Maybe outside of England I guess. So overall I thought the narrator was good I thought the storyline was very good I’m glad that this series is now in print I think it’s testament to an excellent author who has something to say and what were saying. I found it very interesting in the end and I’d recommend it wholeheartedly to my friends.

Excellent overview and interesting and meaningful lectures
Revisado: 10-28-21
Professor Vandiver is exactly what you want from a Great Courses professor. Lectures that have Expertise, high energy, intriguing arguments with 21st Century relevance. The themes of homecoming, two kinds of epic, stranger foreigner guest, loyalty, honor fidelity, treachery, justice and long-suffering are as relevant today as they were at the time of Troy. Professor Vandiver mines the most interesting and poignant sections of the odyssey in a way that makes them come alive. I would listen to a course of hers anytime.

Last chapter of book was deleted.... Chapter 42
Revisado: 07-19-21
Book content and plot is good. However, I was very disappointed to find that the last chapter (42) (found in the kindle novel) was deleted in the audible version. Indeed, it has important facts = rebus cuts a deal with the Sec of State - Gunner is not made Chief Constable... he is transferred. Rebus turns down theIThe Chief Inspector's job and makes a deal so that it goes to Flower. The last chapter is important to set the tone and tenor for Rebus in future books and to develop his character. Sad, that the narration was cut short... still in all, I enjoyed the book. The narrator was fine, others in the series are better, but his style was perfectly fine.
