Historia
Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Historia
Why are we the way we are? Who can we become? What stands in our way? In Dealing with the Devil, Tony Schwartz investigates these sweeping questions by fiercely reckoning with his own life choices, regrets, and aspirations. He confronts the shame that arose after he helped craft a persona for Donald Trump in The Art of the Deal that 30 years later aided in his election as president. He provides a window into understanding our complicated relationship with Trump, and the Trump in each of us.

Trump's Art of the Deal Ghostwriter
Revisado: 10-05-20
Schwartz wrote “The Art of the Deal.” Schwartz regretted dealing with Trump - the devil who drove him to meditation that led him to Ram Das, a person quite the opposite of Trump. He then declares we are all emotionally vulnerable and the importance of interpersonal relationships. Perhaps his mother began his journey to all his difficulties. Schwartz calls “The Art of the Deal” fiction. We have witnessed that.
His new book Dealing with the Devil, Mother, Trump, and Me is about his time and frustrations in writing The Art of the Deal.
Trump had told Schwartz he would donate all the royalties to charity. He did not. Trump’s image with lawyers, brokers, and bankers was far less than what he thought or thinks so Schwartz had trouble writing it. Trump threatened to withhold the Schwartz royalties. Trump convinced himself that whatever he was saying was true. Schwartz came to believe people want to believe something great; truthful hyperbole, an innocent form of exaggeration, a form of sleight-of-hand, a trumped-up euphemism for deceit.

First part of the book is worth listening and the second part pretty much rehashes information under the subject of persuasion with a tilt toward sales.

Historia
In 2010, the words “earthquake swarm” entered the lexicon in Oklahoma. That same year, a trove of Michael Jackson memorabilia—including his iconic crystal-encrusted white glove—was sold at auction for over $1 million to a guy who was, officially, just the lowly forestry minister of the tiny nation of Equatorial Guinea. And in 2014, Ukrainian revolutionaries raided the palace of their ousted president and found a zoo of peacocks, gilded toilets, and a floating restaurant modeled after a Spanish galleon.

Corruption
Revisado: 03-26-20
Blowout by Rachel Maddow is a thorough study of the corruption of the oil industry, money and tax credits, environmental exploitation, political involvement, international networks, and abuse of power.
The book took longer to complete but is detailed, clever, yet infuriating learning of an industrial process that could have been better and served consumers better. Corporate and political leaders throughout the world let us down. I’m hoping new energy does not get exploited by greed. Gas and oil prices would be cheaper but for oligarchs. The public should not be misinformed. Fracking informative.

To most of us, learning something 'the hard way' implies wasted time and effort. Good teaching, we believe, should be creatively tailored to the different learning styles of students and should use strategies that make learning easier. Make It Stick turns fashionable ideas like these on their head and will appeal to all those interested in the challenge of lifelong learning and self-improvement.

Learning just do it
Revisado: 03-26-20
Recommended for those in education. There are solutions to our education system and this book points them out with cognitive scientific studies. Every student wanting to be a teacher or wanting to improve grades should read it. Every teacher or person in the field of education should read this as well. Brown promotes quizzes and self quizzes for learning. Retrieving información is better than rereading as I used to do. How we receive information affects how well we learn the information and how we are able to explain learned substance in our own words. Elaborate what you read and you are better off retaining it. Unless of course you elaborate bullshit like our current president.

Historia
Our current climate of partisan fury is not new, and in The Soul of America Meacham shows us how what Abraham Lincoln called the “better angels of our nature” have repeatedly won the day. Painting surprising portraits of Lincoln and other presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and LBJ, and illuminating the courage of influential citizen activists and civil rights pioneers, Meacham brings vividly to life turning points in American history. Each of these dramatic hours have been shaped by the contest to lead the country to look forward rather than back.

We have Angels
Revisado: 03-26-20
In our times of troubles, Meacham demonstrates how past leaders have led from darkness to light and that our dilemma will pass. We have had better leaders that dealt us out of chaos and trouble.
Meachem does not hesitate to address bigotry and racism as our history and our idealistic goals of unity, fairness and justice. Everyone lives with bias, Presidents are not excluded, yet individuals emerge to do the right thing and inspire us to follow or act on country values. He knows American history, often quoting inspirational statements affecting policy with emotion. With our wars, economic fluctuations, depression of the past and current woes, democratic policy and swift action have kept America afloat. When it seems like hell, our better angels rise.

Ellen does a good job of bringing humor into the stories, yet reading them is so much different than telling jokes. Timing is everything when telling jokes, the way it is said, the pauses.

Although most investigative techniques have been made public through various media, I’d have wished he would have minimized exposure because the bad boys and girls work around them developing new ways to break laws. Sad that some of the public follow devious partisan politicians before the dedicated men and women in law enforcement.
