Body positivity without the benevolent father.
Revisado: 09-23-21
This book is a bit heavy and unbalanced around ignoring the benevolent side of culture and selective exclusivity of right action. She demonized othering and the book seems a bit tainted by third/fourth wave feminist concepts instead of balanced Jungian analysis. By tearing down hierarchy concepts she also elevates anti hierarchy above any selective hierarchy other than personal choice of self expression. We are products of the limitations of society and biology but they are not all bad and restrictive. Some are safeguards for better health, well being and social cohesion for hardships and bad times. She also uses her voice to sooth when there is a lot of unquestioned one sidedness in her stances. Jung supported looking in to the pain and suffering of life to raise conciousness, not just the positive and feel good aspects of self like this book is suggesting.

The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

he predicted many aspects of 2020 a tee. Overall the book is a bit left leaning but pointed out flaws in university and politics that are helpful.

Historia
The Devil, Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles - throughout history the Prince of Darkness, the Western world's most powerful symbol of evil, has taken many names and shapes. Jeffrey Burton Russell here chronicles the remarkable story of the Devil from antiquity to the present. While recounting how past generations have personified evil, he deepens our understanding of the ways in which people have dealt with the enduring problem of radical evil. Russell uncovers the origins of the concept of the Devil in various early cultures and then traces its evolution in Western thought from the time of the ancient Hebrews through the first centuries of the Christian era. Next he turns to the medieval view of the Devil, focusing on images found in folklore, scholastic thought, art, literature, mysticism, and witchcraft.

Historia
Richard J. Evans shows us how historians manage to extract meaning from the recalcitrant past. To materials that are frustratingly meager, or overwhelmingly profuse, they bring an array of tools that range from agreed-upon rules of documentation to the critical application of social and economic theory, all employed with the aim of reconstructing a verifiable, usable past. Evans defends this commitment to historical knowledge from the attacks of postmodernist critics who deny the possibility of achieving any kind of certain knowledge about the past.

Background to History Degree
Revisado: 03-28-20
As some one who has encountered a slew of postmodern history and critical geography coursework this book has helped me identify a stark contrast between two teaching methods and their merits. I believe history is not about power and narrative alone and will do my best to be an objective historian.
