Regardless of your political affiliation, this is a must read. It attacks the fallacies of "what you do in the privacy of your bedroom is your business" or "I don't care what you do as long as it doesn't effect me." Everything we do effects someone else, especially if you are in a position of service to our country.

While there is occasionally some carrying on, this author is a patriot with unshakable loyalty and love of country. He does not have all the solutions to the problems, and he isn't always politically correct, nevertheless he isn't offensive and is spot-on with his assessment of character. But this shouldn't surprise anyone. Military, law enforcement and Secret Service personnel are highly trained individuals with special insight who can sum up a situation or people immediately. Their sole purpose is to assess circumstances and act upon them. They train regularly and are drilled in rules, regulations, procedures and decorum. In other words, they know their stuff. To think for a moment that Gary Byrne didn't see what he claims to have seen, or that his assessment of each situation isn't accurate is to be foolish or ignorant, or both. While this book is certainly not Hemingway or Shakespeare, it is written well enough and I am very glad I took the short amount of time required to read it. Highly recommended.

This is merely an accounting of remembrances of the author. His memories are shocking and recalled with precise detail, however he does little to explain WHY there is such turmoil in Israel and Palestine. I'm sorry I waisted my time and money on it. it is a shame because the author is obviously talented, and there is a story there (somewhere), just not here.

Fascinating true stories of young war brides, especially for anyone interested in the WWII era. The narrator has a lovely British accent that is pleasant to listen to EXCEPT when she is trying to disguise it as American or Italian. She constantly gets it wrong, and it is somewhat distracting. She sounds a bit like a woman from Brooklyn when she is reading the part of a woman from California, and completely muddles the accent of an Italian-immigrant-mother-in-law. When she is speaking for American male soldiers, she sounds flat, crass and as though she is stereotypically "mocking Americans." She is borderline offensive in that she did not research it further, or at the very least work with a dialect coach. If you can't or won't get it right, then please just read the script with your own tongue.
