Historia
Blackwater is the saga of a small town, Perdido, Alabama, and Elinor Dammert, the stranger who arrives there under mysterious circumstances on Easter Sunday, 1919. On the surface, Elinor is gracious, charming, anxious to belong in Perdido, and eager to marry Oscar Caskey, the eldest son of Perdido's first family. But her beautiful exterior hides a shocking secret. Beneath the waters of the Perdido River, she turns into something terrifying, a creature whispered about in stories that have chilled the residents of Perdido for generations.

Great story, great narration
Revisado: 06-19-23
Slow paced befitting the era, but consistently entertaining with bouts of fantastical plot twists gently Intertwined into a realistic narrative. Loved it.

Nathan Pepper seemed like an ordinary baby -- except for a mouth full of scary sharp teeth. Because his life began with his grandmother strongly recommending that he be destroyed as soon as possible, it's safe to say that Nathan was not destined for a typical existence.

Historia
An Above-Top-Secret project brings military brass, elite commandos, ice-drilling experts, and abducted scientists to investigate a 100-mile-long 'gravitational anomaly' half a mile under the West Antarctic Ice Shelf. Their target: a spaceship buried for millions of years, home to a menagerie of alien and prehistoric horrors that could be unleashed on Earth and end every life on it.

Largely dry resuscitation of pseudo factoids..
Revisado: 07-26-18
1/4 of the story was interesting character interaction and 3/4 of the story was dry observation. Large portions were easily tuned out, skimmed over, or ignored altogether. It was formulaic so it was easy to know when the exceptionally unentertaining portions were about to replete and take over the story. Try as you may it becomes less and less tolerable to muddle through those portions as they expectedly repeat in form. By the fifth and final go around the formulaic storyline I gave up and threw in the towel unable/ unwilling to go through the exceedingly boring portions one more time even if there was hope that the conclusion of the story would offer up some kind of entertaining storytelling. Perhaps this would have made a better short story if not filled with fluffer factoids that watered it down and essentially gave it barely a pulse.

Historia
Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims' graves in remote Dread's Hand, Alaska. It's not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest. But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what's in the woods from coming out.

Vague and anti-climactic
Revisado: 12-16-17
It was hard to keep my mind from wandering throughout the entirety of the story and in the end it just sort of fizzled out. Vague and unsatisfying.

The old timers knew it was going to be a bad winter, but no one could have predicted it would be this bad. A supernatural storm has fallen on New Hampshire and a cult leader is whipping the people of the Granite State into a frenzy. Now a handful of rugged folk from the North Country are all that stand between a tyrant and his plans for dominion. Snow is piling in the Great North Woods and the dead walk among the trees. Beware the winter wasteland.

intelligently written, well narrated..
Revisado: 11-25-17
The author did a fine job- It's very well written. you can tell when someone's done their research and when they haven't and this author clearly has. And the narrator did the story Justice. often enough a narator can ruin a decent story. not in this case. It was an entertaining book.

The lackluster narrator was really hard to get beyond. Her monotone voice made it difficult to distinguish between characters, action, story progression..

Couldn't get past the crappy narrator..
Revisado: 05-07-17
It's not a fair critique of the writing or story but an inept narrator can ruin a book- as this narrator did. He has no range of voice so was unable to depict different characters. The performance was the equivalence of listening to someone read an instruction manual.

Very entertaining
Revisado: 05-01-17
Well written and the narrator did it justice. A bad narrator can destroy a story where as a good one can bring all the characters to life as the author intended. The story is a good one and the narrator did a fine job. It is a three-part cliffhanger and leaves you looking forward to more.

Meh..
Revisado: 05-27-16
The charecters were not written believably. Subtle and glaringly obious instances of scenarios depicted with non-believable charecter responses and dialog. The narrators version of a female voice sounded like a parady of a bitchy cheerleader. "Like, oh my god.." The story illuluded to something supernatural about the town in general but that bit of the storyline wandered off and petered out- having nothing to do with the main events...
