As a commuter bicyclist, I found this book too technical with respect to racing.
Well written and performed - just not what I was expecting. I wanted more wide ranging perspectives on biking.

Historia
Pastor Mike Mather arrived in Indianapolis thinking that he was going to serve the poor. But after his church’s community lost nine young men to violence in a few short months, Mather came to see that the poor didn’t need his help - he needed theirs. This is the story of how one church found abundance in a community of material poverty. Viewing people - not programs, finances, or service models - as their most valuable resource moved church members beyond their own walls and out into the streets, where they discovered folks rich in strength, talents, determination, and love.

A much needed topic for our busy times. It presented great options and rationale for solitude.
I could not finish the book as I found the presentation of information repetitive. Just my take - I guess I got my take-away from this book early on.

Historia
For more than five decades, Billy Graham (1918 to 2018) ranked as one of the most influential voices in the Christian world. Nearly 215 million people around the world heard him preach in person or through live electronic media, almost certainly more than any other person. For millions, Graham was less a preacher than a Protestant saint. While remaining orthodox at the core, over time, his approach on many issues became more irenic and progressive. And his preaching continued to resonate, propelled by his powerful promise of a second chance.

Historia
On March 4, 1928, 199 men lined up in Los Angeles, California, to participate in a 3,400-mile transcontinental footrace to New York City. The Bunion Derby, as the press dubbed the event, was the brainchild of sports promoter Charles C. Pyle. He promised a $25,000 grand prize and claimed the competition would immortalize US Route 66, a 2,400-mile road, mostly unpaved, that subjected the runners to mountains, deserts, mud, and sandstorms, from Los Angeles to Chicago.

What an AMAZING competition - a 1920’s foot race across America with a prize purse of $25,000! An incredible human accomplishment - the story made me wonder if it’s ever been done since!
About 125 men - black and white - entered the race. Some professional runners while others were novices. Sadly prejudice and bigotry towards the black “bunyoneers” - as all participants were called - is part of the story.
This human drama is worth learning about because of its grand goal by the promoter who organized the event as well logistics and city stops entertainment.
The writing has an enjoyable pace and the vocal performance was perfect for the story.
Clearly a 5-star effort on all counts!

A rash of fires and cattle thefts is plaguing the area, and the three young orphans they've sheltered are under suspicion from their prejudiced neighbors. As hostilities mount, Amelia seizes every opportunity to help and encourage, but how much can one girl do? Will Reverend Brown win the community over to the true spirit of love?

God Confronts Racism as the West is Won in Arizona
Revisado: 10-31-19
Technically the story setting is the Arizona territory - meaning before Arizona became a US state. I mention this to give a plot timeframe. Frontier life and risk, Adopted native American children, a pastor and an Arizona Ranger. Mix in some arson and cattle stealing and the author creates a historical fiction story based on reality of the Arizona Rangers. The narrator does a good job voicing characters and situations.

An Expose' on Mainstream Media's Losing It's Way
Revisado: 10-31-19
More a text book on the media's history as compared to my expectation of a castigation of the "lame stream media" or "fake news." Mr. Martin presents a balanced case of the media abandoning the working class and literally "selling out" or "getting into bed with big business" - albeit in an academic style.
I will criticize narrator Frank Gerard for his biased tone in his performance when he delivers quotes from conservative or Republican personalities. His President Trump impersonations were the worst and detracted from taking the point that the author was making seriously.
I had to work at finishing the book to the end as the text book style got tiresome but i found it worth the effort.

Rich history, important figures, and massive events that rocked the entire continent; each of the 50 states comprising the United States has been the scene of enormous moments in history that are the subject of study all over the world. Knowing such facts and being able to recognize the details of culture, folklore, and sports (among many other pieces of trivia) are gifts that very few have, even those that can boast living in certain states all of their lives.

Don't We All Wish We Could Be A . . . God Whisper
Revisado: 07-07-19
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Be honest, we all would love to talk to God directly. This book is a look into what that experience might be like.
After an operation to create a new ear that he was born without, the young boy can hear directly from God.
It’s an intriguing concept - to hear directly from God. The dialogues with the boy and God are thought-provoking and self-reflective.
The interpretation and performance of the boy's character is spot on and very believable. I thought the parents relationship and conversations needed more depth but the boy's story and talks with God are the main focus and dominate the story.
You will become an instant cheerleader for the boy who is the God Whisperer and this book that tells his story.
