Another Win for Alex Lidell

While not my favorite Alex Lidell series (her Power of 5 series is phenomenal), the story is is I interesting & compelling. I highly recommend that you not start w/this book though. This series is 1 story told over 4 books. So if you start with book 2-4, you won't understand all the nuances & you'll miss our on the world building she lays out in book 1. I love that she alternates that she writes chapters that are told from all 5 of the main characters as well as the from the villain's point of view. I think it creates a much more robust story.
But the voice actors left a bit to be desired. I like that the MC chapters are narrated by a woman & the men's chapters are narrated by a man. The only thing that kinda broke the illusion for me was that the MC always described her orgasm as painful. The other irksome thing was that the narrators weren't able to maintain their accents. I found them to frequently drop the accents or the accent would drift from Scottish to maybe Italian. They was also no continuity of character's accents between the female & male narrators. So this was kinda distracting.

I haven't read a Penelope Ward book that I didn't love which is saying something bc I don't generally like the normal modern romance genre. Stepbrother Dearest took me by surprise & I loved every word. She has me hooked & this book didn't disappoint. The narrator was good.

Not Your Typical Paranormal Romance

Very Rare

This book was an accidental find. I was looking for my next book & passed ready to pass it over. That was until I accidentally played the sample. The narrator hooked me from the 1st sentence. The main characters live & breath. I just love the concept & idea - very creative. The story is very well written with wonderful word choices. The author has a wonderful grasp of Norse mythology. I can't wait to read the 2nd book.

winning Formula

Ms. Bailey has a gift for story telling and a winning formula for her books. So far, all of the books that I've read follow the same basic structure - super powerful girl meets boys that she immediately is attracted to and they to her. A troublesome bad guy (or girl), and the girl and her guys win the day. But every time I pick up a book I devour it, because it has a uniqeness to it and her writing just hooks me. I really love how she peppers other storytellers throughout the book.

I Like It

This book follows G. Bailey's usual storyline of her other books - a 17 year old girl finds that she is uber powerful, she falls in love with a set of twins and a couple of other perfectly handsome boys at the school (including the super sexy teacher) and they all fall madly in love with her. You need to read her books in order, because the 1st book tells the story up to the plot hook. Then the 2nd book picks up where the 1st book ends. I really like the way she includes chapters told by the boys' (with different voice actors reading those chapters) from their' point of view. It really adds to the story in my opinion.
