But the jailed suspect, arrested in a public spectacle, has an alibi, and further research convinces Detective Ralph Anderson that the coach was indeed out of town. New passion for an old love
Revisado: 07-21-23
I took pmy time with this book, even though I prepurchased it. Like savouring a favorite dessert or slowly wrapping ones hands around a warm cup of tea in winter, I enjoyed every moment, every sensation, every emotion it made me feel. Rosamund Pike is such a good narrator. I read this book decades ago, and I could not imagine a better guide for me, leading me on roads that I have forgotten in the years between traveling them. I really hope she continues to read the series. I will not be satisfied with less.
On the book, I had always remembered it fondly
I think, apart from Shadow Rising it is one of my favorites. It is such a joy to be back in this world.

From narration to information, perfect
Revisado: 05-03-23
Honestly, I came for the narrator because it feels as if everything Pike touches these days is perfect. The episodes themselves, very interesting. Upsetting in a strange way. I am so grateful to all the witnesses who came out to give an interview.

Historia
Rosamund Pike stars as Edith Wilson in "Edith!" a scripted comedy podcast exploring the untold true-ish story of America's secret First Female President. After President Woodrow Wilson suffered a massive, paralyzing stroke in the White House, Edith Wilson did the unthinkable: she told no one. And for almost a year following the end of World War I, Edith Wilson acted as the de facto unelected President. She would sign documents as him. She would fire people as him. She would even cause international incidents as him. And all along the way, enemies both internal and external, inched closer to ...

Less adds, more story next time.
Revisado: 01-25-23
First things first. Rosamund Pike is FANTASTIC. But when is she not. Loved the story, finished it in a day. The script was good, I enjoyed the pacing, save perhaps for the end. It felt half done. Can't tell you why. Maybe because I know Wilson won the Noble Peace prize and it wasn't all lost.
The adds, though wow. Talk about repetitive. and too much. Felt as if it were 50% of the content.

Historia
Death has been fired by the Auditors of Reality for the heinous crime of developing…a personality. Sent to live like everyone else, Death takes a new name and begins working as a farmhand. He's got the scythe already, after all. And for humanity, Death is just…gone. Which leads to the kind of chaos you always get when an important public service is withdrawn. If Death doesn't come for you, then what are you supposed to do in the meantime? You can't have the undead wandering about like lost souls—there's no telling what might happen.

LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR...
Revisado: 11-23-22
Buy it. Don't hesitate, don't think it might be too short for one credit's worth. It's worth all the credits. All of them.
I love Sir Pratchett's books, I love to read them over and over and over again and Reaper Man is no exception. I can't tell you how many times I have gone through this story and every time I do so, I feel as if I read or hear something else.
This is my first exposure to the new narrations. My feelings on Terry Pratchett's books as audio books are complicated.
The books are meant to be read. They are a joy on the page and I was worried that this book specifically might not translate well.
Surprisingly it did. The narrator did a good job, the actor for Death, FANTASTIC. Bill Nighy in the footnotes... Not bad. Foot notes are always though in the TP audiobooks because... How do you truly insert them without breaking the narration?
On the story, I just want to say that it has given me the most beautiful picture of Death, living and how one should spend ones time.
And there is one quote, I will always think about. Possibly even put on my grave.
"LORD, WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?"

Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year. Mason Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Gillette Park. At 18, she headed off to college and the bright lights of Los Angeles, thinking she'd never return home to the broken family and forgotten friendships she'd left behind.

Drinking game here!
Revisado: 11-23-22
Ok. So. The rules.
1) Get your drink of choice, pour out some shots.
2) Start the book.
3) Take a shot every time the following sentences are used: "Get out of my head." "Freaking me out." "Freak me out." "I'm a freak." "Get out of my mind." "I'm not a mind reader."
4) Get back onto your chair, the world will stop spinning in a moment. Drink some water.
5) Start Chapter 5...
Ok, so maybe it's not THAT pronounced, but as you listen you will find that these phrases, repeated enough not to be safe to play a drinking game with, will get under your skin. Still, the plot's not that bad. Grudgingly, I will admit I actually enjoyed it. I might not use my credits as often on this author as, say... Oh Stephen King or Brandon Sanderson. But, it was endearing.
What I enjoyed was strong(ish) female characters, the woods, the vague attempt at an intriguing supernatural plot which carried my attention long enough to get to the end.
What I didn't enjoy was bad editing, weak dialogue (often repeated) and the stunted pacing. Sure, we want to give these two women time to get to know each other but it bordered on cliché, rather than comfortable. There was some sighing and eye rolling involved, especially during the numerous meals that were shared. No, not that kind of eating out. The stuff that involves soaked bread, juicy chicken and chocolate that sends you "over the edge."
Gravy anybody?

When the narrator blows you away...
Revisado: 08-18-22
I've stated previously how much I loved this series as a child growing up. Eagerly awaiting the release of every book. I loved them all, I cried, rejoiced, mourned. The story had felt so alive and I had never thought that anybody would be able to 'tell' me the story as well as I had read it. I had tried the other narrators but... it hadn't felt right. They're not bad, I'm listening Sanderson. But Pike has blown me away. This isn't the first time, nor the second considering that I read Eye of the World. No, the first time she blew my mind was when I watched a play called Madame de Sade in London. I knew then, when she stood equal to Dame Judi Dench in that theatre, that she was someone to watch. And she has not disappointed. The performance is rich, the characters all given their own voices. Her words, those of Jordan, paints the world in bright colors. This is such a pleasure to listen to.
I truly hope Rosamund Pike will complete the whole series. I'm willing to wait for every book, as I did decades ago for the series. This narration has done the world justice.
