Fun, creepy and witty

This story is a blast from beginning to end. It's full of mystery, wit, action and creepy aliens. The main character is the type of chick I would love to hang out with and the narration absolutely rocks.

Haunting, beautiful, mysterious

I liked the first two Sav'ine books a lot. This book though, takes the cake. The first Sav'ine book is like a mob book. The second is a who-done-it in space. This one... It reminds me of Dracula, but better and without vampires. I just love the feel and the intrigue of this book. It's so haunting and so dark, but it's also filled with hope. This book is like a comforting hug to me.

A who done it- but in space

Initially I was disappointed, I had been hoping for this book to pick up alone the story line of Emerald Tears. This disappointment lasted only seconds. I was immediately drawn to the whole new world and characters that Bender introduced in this story. I'm not sure how she so flawlessly integrates the Sav'ine's story into a whole new... Uh. Everything. This book is filled with everything you could possibly want in a sci-fi book with hints of an old school who done it.
It's hard not to fall in love with the characters.

This book is a gift of wonder, suspense, and fascination all wrapped up in perfect narration. I can't wait for the next in the series. I couldn't stop listening.

I was not expecting this

I usually do not like books written from the perspective of animals. Not because I don't like animals, I love them. I usually don't like them because something always feels off, like they're too human. In this book though, Bender switches in some weird effortless way from writing about humans and Sav'ine to humans, Sav'ine and very sentient ape-ish creatures. This book very gently forced me to question my fragile human ideals. Bender does a fantastic job of making the characters realistic in a way that makes sense not only to what they are but also who they are without sacrificing their nature. It's familiar and oh so different. As if the story didn't already feel real enough to me Harding breathes so much life into this story with his narration. It's the perfect fit!

I received a copy from the author, in exchange for an honest review.
This book is exactly how sci-fi should be written. It takes place in a dystopic world that it isn't a stretch to think could be ours in the not so distant future. The main character is the kind of guy who is so utterly messed up by his past that he chooses to get rid of them. Not in the way that people in our current timeline do: drugs, alcohol, adrenaline or whatever other vice there is. He actually sells his emotions on the black market. I'm in awe with how easy it was to relate to the main character, and totally blown away by how much I hated some of his choices but understood why he did them. This book had me in tears more than once and left me completely speechless. The way it's written is borderline poetic. I could easily see the setting in my mind.

Such a fun story

The way Bender writes her characters makes them almost alive. I really love the Sav'ine books and figured it wouldn't hurt to try it out. I was not disapointed. This story is fun, cute, and funny; filled with action and adventure.
