Just flat out interesting and extremely well written. Covered everything from history of the times, The types of men it attracted, the biology of beavers, trapping techniques, politics, world business trade and fashion, indigenous complexities, and survival in the Rockies.

The only thing it didn’t cover is the ethical element of trapping and killing beavers. Would’ve liked to hear his perspective on that. Including, why in the world does anybody kill beavers now?

Fascinating, but short

The topic is fascinating. But did leave me wanting more. More detail on or everything. More proof, more patients. More examples on the topic. I have so many questions.

Much better than expected

I was expecting a romcom. But the Storyline and writing was clever and mature. Moved along extremely well, Got my attention, tugged at the heartstrings here and there, Yet had an element of intrigue that was fun.
Go for it.

Good story, compelling, trouble following

I thought the narrating and storyline were compelling. And I am, of course, very familiar with the style of writing where they go back-and-forth on parallel storylines until they come together at the end. But as an audiobook that gets listened to a little every day, I sometimes find myself asking who that is, or how something fits in? I know they tried hard for that not to happen, and maybe it’s me. But it happened here and there for me. 
So that’s why I’m giving it a little lower rating than perhaps some others.
Reminds me of an old saying, in my profession, which is sales: “A confused buyer, never buys”.

I was reading two books at once. Another by Michael Conley. I had to put his down because I could not stop listening to this one. Love the premise, love the story. Fabulous. Wendy is my new favorite author.

Lily, 67-year-old male here. Love your writing style and content. So fun. The characters, strengths, weaknesses and realistic insecurities are lovely, as are your storylines. Just a pleasure. Also, enjoying your strong Asian content. As a white caucasian, helps broaden my life. :-)

(highly recommended to those unfamiliar with her writing. It’s just a good romp, as they say).

Not my usual kind of book. This was a bit of a romance novel, with an interesting and imaginative storyline. Moved along wonderfully a complete delight to read.
I will look for more from this author !

Wow

Well, I’m a male, not that that should matter much. But wow, for me it was a page turner. Interesting, compelling, well composed, eloquent, and so well done. And though I have not read the background on Li and how accurate she chose to tell the story, it seems it must be terribly close to what has happened in the last 10 years.
I have trouble imagining what anyone, any adult, would not find this book extremely entertaining.
