Historia
In virtually every way that can be measured, Gen Z’s mental health is worse than that of previous generations. Youth suicide rates are climbing, antidepressant prescriptions for children are common, and the proliferation of mental health diagnoses has not helped the staggering number of kids who are lonely, lost, sad and fearful of growing up. What’s gone wrong with America’s youth? In Bad Therapy, bestselling investigative journalist Abigail Shrier argues that the problem isn’t the kids—it’s the mental health experts.

Some good points, but biased.
Revisado: 05-23-24
The first several chapters of this book are good. Eventually the author’s political bias takes center stage and less care is done to represent both sides of the issues. Many claims are made without considering other viewpoints. The tone becomes angry and clearly clouded. This is a shame because the premise of the book is important and has some validity, much of which is lost by the end. I would highly recommend “The Anxious Generation” instead as a fairer, much better researched and non-political book that addresses this topic.

Historia
Dave Grohl’s The Storyteller created a sensation when it was initially published, becoming a global bestseller and thrilling fans and critics alike. Readers came to the book for Dave’s heartfelt voice, his love of family and music, and the energy that pours from every page. Dave’s is an extraordinary life made of up ordinary moments, and he tells stories just like he writes songs—from his soul.

Interesting stories, but guarded.
Revisado: 02-12-24
Having read a lot of autobiographies of many types of people, I found this one noticeably devoid of key details. What about girlfriends and how he met his wife, for example? Overall it is an enjoyable listen, but I couldn’t help feel that it was a very selective and censored story. It is of course anyone’s right to keep their life to themselves, but if you sell an autobiography it is more common to be a bit more personal and revealing than Dave is willing to. Feels like he’s cultivating an image more than honestly sharing all of himself. Maybe when he’s older we’ll get a different fuller perspective from him, but this one mostly focuses on positives.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Masterful climax
Revisado: 01-09-24
I had the benefit of meeting James McBride many years ago at university when Color of Water was released. This book was more enjoyable to me. I was particularly impressed with the intricate weaving of threads that culminate so well in the last chapter. As a Pennsylvanian it was an interesting setting and the voice performance was top notch.

The Spinning Jenny was invented in 1770, and with that, a new era of manufacturing and industry changed lives everywhere within a generation. A world filled with unrest wrestles for control over this new world order: A mother’s husband is killed in a work accident due to negligence; a young woman fights to fund her school for impoverished children; a well-intentioned young man unexpectedly inherits a failing business; one man ruthlessly protects his wealth no matter the cost, all the while war cries are heard from France.

Continued excellence
Revisado: 12-22-23
I found this book to be very much the same quality as the previous titles on the series. Definitely recommend it! The political aspects of the story are accurate and historical, they are not meant to be taken as a modern agenda the way many reviewers seem to think.

Historia
The person who pushes your buttons is likely someone who matters to you - a spouse, a parent, a boss, a fellow church member. Almost always this difficult person is connected to you by blood, love, faith, or money, so you can't just end the relationship without causing pain and upheaval in your life. Our friends and today's culture will often advise us to abandon such relationships quickly - to end this unpleasant chapter and get on with our lives. Psychologist and author Dr. John Townsend disagrees.

Incorrect Genre. Condescending tone.
Revisado: 08-01-23
As a Christian myself I am not upset by Biblical references, however cover, title, description, etc., do not accurately communicate that this book is much more based on the author’s personal values and not on psychological science. The Biblical references don’t really add to the therapeutic and self-help purpose of the book and are often a bit forced. Would be better classified under spiritual lifestyle. The narration can come across as somewhat condescending as well. I’ve read a lot of psychology books and religious books and I didn’t really find this book valuable to either spectrum.
