Historia
Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Predictable
Revisado: 12-04-23
The plot tries to have twists but it is entirely predictable and rather boring. The premise is weak. Do not recommend.

Stupid protagonist.
Revisado: 09-13-21
The writing is excellent. I generally enjoy this author. However, the main character in this book makes so many stupid decisions for no apparent reason, I found myself wishing it would end as a tragedy with the heroine in a grave. Also, this is one of those books where you figure out the “twist” in the first 50 pages but think, “That’s too obvious. It must be a red herring.” But then your obvious guess turns out to be the twist and you are left totally disappointed.

Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

Disappointing
Revisado: 07-26-21
This book is a disappointing follow up to The Silent Patient. The characters are one dimensional and the author falls into the trap of showing a “random knife on the mantle” that is later revealed to be the “surprise” key to the mystery. In other words, it is totally predictable and just takes forever to get to an uninteresting destination.

Historia
Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors - and the items stolen from her family were never recovered. Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Unlikeable, pretentious characters.
Revisado: 06-14-21
I am a Harlan Coben fan, so I purchased this book with high hopes. The narrator was good and the plotting was well done. BUT... the main character is such a pretentious, unlikeable, snob. He has no redeeming qualities and he spends all his time talking about how great he is and how terrific it is to be rich. The book is almost political in its emphasis on class and the excessive advantages given to those with money. While this may be true, I found its unapologetic tone offensive. I would not recommend this book, as it just left me with a sour taste. The characters are not likable at all, and this makes it nearly impossible to route for anyone. They take advantage of others without apology and feel entitled to everything. I wanted them to have a redeeming quality, but none ever came.

Historia
The Inn at Gloucester stands alone on the rocky shoreline. Its seclusion suits former Boston police detective Bill Robinson, novice owner and innkeeper. As long as the dozen residents pay their rent, Robinson doesn't ask any questions. Neither does Sheriff Clayton Spears, who lives on the second floor. Then Mitchell Cline arrives, with a deadly new way of doing business. His crew of local killers break laws, deal drugs, and bring violence to the doors of the Inn.

TV Series Wannabe...
Revisado: 09-21-19
This is the first review I have been compelled to write. This book is so awful I would give it zero stars if I could. It is very obvious that Patterson is simply trying to create another series for TV or movie options. The book has a bunch of quirky characters who live in a seaside Inn for reasons that make no sense. The plot slogs along so slowly it's painful. There are no twists or turns. Drug dealer in town. Vigilantes want to get rid of them. Yawn! There are no characters to sympathize with and all of the quirks they present with are just obvious characterizations designed to kick off a series. Patterson cranks out a book a week with all of his co-authors, so I suppose it's not a big surprise that some of the writing will be terrible. But this is beyond awful. Do not waste your money.

Frustrating book
Revisado: 04-27-18
Would you listen to Hello Again again? Why?
I would not. The actor who read this book was excellent, but the story does not call for a relisten.
What was most disappointing about Brenda Novak’s story?
The story is too obviously a part 1 in a series. Many characters were introduced and many plotlines were developed that wound up going nowhere. The book ended with a bunch of loose threads that made me feel like I'd been duped into wasting a lot of time listening to a story that was designed to get me to buy the next book.
Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No
