disappointing

The characters are very shallow. Not even the main two characters are interesting or given a full personality. The magic that drives the story is not well defined, or interesting. The last few pages try to make up a quick romance that becomes forced, and just - yawn.

Story and narration

It is rare for the story to be enhanced by the narration, and the narration enhanced by the story. The characters are well rounded and the narrator really brings out their personalities! It is a wonderful!

Disappointing

The magic in this Mercy Thompson book was so very prevalent that it became the main character, leaving Mercy and Adam in the back seat, so to speak. it was also too strange and unworthy of the importance it was given. The characters at thr inn where they were staying were one sided and lackied interest. The interludes helped becaused they included some of the pack and Gary, Mercy's brother. But even those interludes couldn't save this story. The pack are such a foundational aspect to the story of Adam and Mercy, that their personalities fill out and enrich every adventure that Mercy and Adam have, but their lack of interaction with Mercy and Adam left the story less than it could have been. I look forward every year to the next adventure of Mercy, and was extremely disappointed this year.

I usually avoid short stories because I don't think they are worth the money they cost. I'm glad I made an exception with this novelette.

Entertainment Divine!

Just like its predessors, this story and the wonderful narration are works of the most artful entertainment! My only question is, "Why isn't the rest of this series on audible?!"

I had a hard time putting this story down. The characters just seem to bloom on the page. I loved every minute!

A delightful book!

This is a romp of laughter with lots of twists and a truly enjoyable story. The narrator did a great job of putting all the characters and voices together! I've never read a book by Suzanne Enoch before, and I'll be looking for more of her books.

A must read to set the stage!

This is the first book in a great series! This series was recommended to me with the comment that the first book is a little hard to understand, but that each book seems to get better and better. That was a very accurate assessment! Once I got the magic and characters down, I could hardly wait to read the next book in the series. Really well developed characters, fun magic, laugh out loud spots as well as surprising and serious outcomes.
