First 19 hrs kept putting me to sleep
Revisado: 12-10-21
The story being a bit too abstract for me during the first 19 hours of the book, it kept putting me to sleep: I guess 'The Dreamer' from the story somewhat became reality. I couldn't follow the story and was close to stop listening, but I wanted to know how the whole series ends. In the end the last hour or so kept me awake, but I have to say I couldn't really understand what the authors were trying to say. I also noticed lots of unnecessary cussing. Nothing like the earlier books.

Historia
Former Marine Arthur Holland’s destiny begins when an aircraft crashes on his property in the mountains of Colorado. He moves to investigate and to help any survivors, but the closer he gets the less control he has of his movements. An unknown force urges him to open the door of the mysterious craft, discovering the secret that lies within: a dead, alien pilot and a peculiar, otherworldly crystal. If that wasn’t enough, the crystal feels like it is alive. That’s when he hears a single word inside his mind: run.

Too new agey for my taste
Revisado: 04-20-21
The story had a few 'convenient' twists that were a bit far fetched even for this story, like there's a portal that transports a scientist from one end of the galaxy to another, but the portal happens the stay open so that a villain was able to follow through the same portal, then the portal is used to whisk our hero far far away. When the hero wants to get back home he can't use a 'portal' to get back home for whatever reason. However, the story was a good read for the most part until the 'meditation' started and the hero imagined a bubble filled with stress and bad feelings ... sorry that did it for me.

Historia
They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.

After saving the world many times, the Merry Band of Pirates have accepted the inevitable: Earth is doomed. All they can do is try to bring a few thousand people to safety, before vicious aliens arrive to destroy humanity's home world. No. There is one other thing they can do: hit the enemy so hard that the aliens will regret they ever heard of humans.

Is this a different author?
Revisado: 06-10-20
I was really looking forward to reading this book especially having extra time due to the Wuhan virus. I read the whole series and loved all books, some a bit more, some a bit less - but i loved them all. I even recommended the series to many friends. So this book was nearly 20 hours long - i knew this would be a treat! I couldn't wait to join Bishop and Skippy and their adventures and here's what I experienced: R.C. Bray was awesome as always, Unfortunately the characters i loved so much in the previous books, had changed to a bland copy of their past. For example: Skippy's funny character is now just dull and annoying in this book, and Bishop's character has been reduced to some copied and pasted snippets from previous books, anything new with Bishop's character was bland and not memorable. As far as the story goes it was a long walk through sticky sludge and i actually started to forget to pick up the book again after I put it down. I have to admit that in the past i have sometimes spent a whole weekend to finish a book, but I didn't rush to get back to this book. Sure enough picking it back up ended up being a big mistake because the story's end is a pure disaster, a bit like 'Avengers: Endgame' except nobody is left. Not sure if anybody who only read 'Valkyrie' would ever read another book by this author! Since i bought all books in this series i hope that Craig Alanson - to quote a scene from 'Dumb and Dumber' - "Totally redeems himself" with the next book.

Historia
The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.

Probably the best sifi series i have read
Revisado: 06-03-19
This is my kind of sifi story, great balance between humor, action, adventure, and discovery. Loved the different characters - makes you want to be part of the merry band of pirates ;-) R.C. Bray makes the story come alive in your head - especially when I walk in the dark here on Kauai where we have incredible night time scenes of the Milky Way.

Historia
Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy. But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper. In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay.

Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

The main character of the story is too unreal
Revisado: 12-20-17
I listened to the book because I really liked the Martian, but in retrospect it was a waste of time. I couldn't get into the storyline at all, but I had the most trouble with the main character. I think if Andy (who I assume is male) tells another story he should stick to the same gender. His portrayal of a women of Saudi heritage is way over the top in all respects and came out totally unbelievable for me. I listened to quite a few SiFi books this year, this is probably the worst.

Historia
A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood. The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them. James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone.

Let down: It's like this book has new writers
Revisado: 03-19-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Too many characters and convoluted story line. It took me 2 months to listen to this book and to tell you the truth I don' t remember a thing. Even while listening to the book I had to re-listen to chapters over and over because they were so forgettable.
What was most disappointing about James S. A. Corey’s story?
What is it with the obsession about polygamy ?
What does Jefferson Mays bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kudos to the narrator for being able to read the whole book, I would have given up.
What character would you cut from Babylon's Ashes?
Most of the belters with the incoherent babel.
