The Lord of the Isles series has been a strange fascination of mine, I picked up the first book early in the year and enjoyed most if it but there were some problems. While I enjoyed the characters they didn’t feel too deep and there wasn’t a clear plot structure until the end. Book two gave Garric a lot more purpose but the rest were mostly the same as the first, and the plot structure was off as well, still enjoyable but not perfect. This is the first book where I really appreciated the plot structure, it worked greatly to provide a thoroughly satisfying climax where every character felt important.

The challenge are just fine, they don’t change, but are still fun to be around, but the set pieces they cross? Pure delight Drake does a great job making each set piece feel awesome, just some great action scenes.

If you want a fun, albeit kinda mid, fantasy book this one is perfectly fine with a delightful finish.
