This was an amazing book I fell in love with the characters; laughed when they did and shed a few tears at times. This is a must read. I know it’s a bit long but it should be on your book club list! There was romance, anger, fighting at times and lots of history to be learned, a little bit for both women and men

Historia
Half-Korean, half-Japanese, Masaji Ishikawa has spent his whole life feeling like a man without a country. This feeling only deepened when his family moved from Japan to North Korea when Ishikawa was just thirteen years old, and unwittingly became members of the lowest social caste. His father, himself a Korean national, was lured to the new Communist country by promises of abundant work, education for his children, and a higher station in society. But the reality of their new life was far from utopian.

Long, long river of sadness
Revisado: 08-19-21
This was a great book, it was well written and narrated. This man and his family’s story was very sad but it really showed how hard the human spirit will work to survive. I don’t want to say any more because I don’t want to give anything away. This man’s story is shocking, amazing, heart wrenching and inspiring, his book is a must read

This was such a pleasant book to listen to. The characters were nice, there was no sex, swearing, fighting, and no one died. My son was able to come in the room and I didn’t have to quickly pause the book. It was just a fun book to listen to and I would highly recommend it, especially if you were looking for a book to listen to in one or two days.

Mom’s do need a break
Revisado: 02-27-20
I loved the book. Amy has an amazing voice and did a very good job narrating this book. She really made me believe that each character was a different person. The story of this book was great as well. I know that this was a fictional book, but I do think that each parent needs a break from their home life, just to relax and remember who they actually are. After having my son and being the primary, almost exclusive, parent I realized that I was going to go crazy soon if I didn’t do something for myself. My husband and I did not have family nearby as well. I found an exercising class near my home that I could take one night a week. So I told my husband that he was on his own, every Monday evening. I went to my first class, actually excited to work out. Thankfully I got there late and took time to watch the class prior to joining in. I watched maybe 30 women working out with sweat running down their faces, and I turned around and never looked back! For the next 5 years, I told my husband I was going to an exercising class, when I was really going to a cafe every Monday night and relaxing. My son is 15 now and I still go out every Monday night! Thanks for reminding your readers that parents do a better job parenting when they take time to care for themselves as well

Fantastic!
Revisado: 01-02-20
I loved this book. Yes, there was the normal girl meets guy, then she pushes guy away, girl gets into some trouble, guy saves girl and they live happily ever after. However, the main characters had depth and you really felt you knew them and will miss them when the book is over. This book was also laugh out loud funny. Just like the audible commercial where everyone is angry because of stop and go traffic except for the person listening to Audible and laughing! That is how much I liked this book.

Amazing
Revisado: 12-16-19
This book was fantastic. The book held my attention from the very beginning. I was not sure that I liked the reader, thinking he was a little monotone. However, after maybe the first chapter his voice was perfect for the the characters and made them feel like they were part of my family.
I spend a lot of time in my car and I listen to books while I drive. This book was so good it make late for work one day and I couldn’t get out of my car when I got home because I couldn’t stop listening!
I’m sure this happens to other people too, you just finish a great book and are positive you won’t find another book that good again, well this is your next book. You will not be sorry.
The sad thing is, that I have to find new book now, and can’t imagine finding one this great!
