I love Abby Jimenez, but this book was 30+ chapters of “he loves someone else” and “she doesn’t love me”. Then a chapter of happy followed by more chapters of “he’ll never love me enough” and “he’ll leave eventually”. Blah. Gimme a little happy time. I’m sorry. But this one didn’t do it for me.

Decent story, not my favorite narrator

I liked the characters. i wish they had had more time together like the characters in Jennifer Hartmann's Still Beating. I ended up switching to KU to read the book because the female narrator is not my favorite. She sounds halting and slow. She also sounds like she need to swallow the saliva in her mouth before she narrates. Disappointed. I really like listening to books, but I can't listen to any read by her.

Great Book, Irritating Audiobook

I absolutely love the love and relationship between Xaden and Violet. I really love Ridoc. The dynamic of the squad is fantastic, especially the love and support for Sawyer. Without spoilers, I will say that my first word when I finished the book was "MOTHERF****R!"
The annoying thing is that this is done almost entirely by a female narrator. There is no reason not to use male and female narrators for the male and female characters. It's the standard for audiobooks these days, and this series should exceed the standard given the size of the audience and fanbase. I'll order the dramatized version when it's released and listen to it again. Probably multiple times.
All that said, I'm going to need Rebecca Yarros to move a little more quickly on the next in the series. This is going to haunt me until she does. It's like when I had to wait for the next Harry Potter book for freaking years.

Rebecca Yarros is amazing

I read this book based on my love if Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, and it does not disappoint. As a military spouse, I appreciate the commitment to authenticity. The characters are three dimensional and cause all the feels. I lloved it's not the typical friends to lovers trope.
Lost loves finding their way back. I literally cried at times from heartbreak during their story. love, love love I'm going back to read all of her books published outside of Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. Rebecca has a true gift.

Male voice

The male narrator sounds like an old man. It’s very hard to relate this voice to the character of Theon. The female did a better job as his voice.
