Awesome book, great on audio

I had this audible book on pre-order because I wanted to support the author. I got two books this week, Daniel Goleman’s Optimal and I Survived Capitalism. I Survived Capitalism is the clear winner for me, and I am so glad that as a Gen Xer, I got a glimpse of the life in her generation. The kids are gonna be ok if they get the information that she laced into her book, and I immediately bought two more copies of the hardcover for my teens. Way to go! I love cheering for the author, and Madeline knocked this one out of the park.

I keep thinking about this book.

I listened to this book on a long drive through nevada. I am not an audiobook person, but the readers who narrated this book rocked it, and it's one of those books where I am just cheering for the author - how could he put all this together?!? Wow, I want to hear him talk about his process. I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know the chronology of the book as I was listening because maybe I wasn't paying attention. It didn't matter, words unravel and then weave back together to create a meaningful whole. You know how you want to be an ally but you never can understand? Well, maybe you will understand just a little more after you listen to this. This is what modern literature can do for us.

Hits right. This is the new American Western.

I am going to buy copies of this book and hand them out to every one of my friends. Then I am going to wait for them to come back to me with either OMFG we need to make an altar and worship Claire Vaye Watkins OR WTF did you give this to me for? I am going to take the first group of friends on a crazy retreat in Tecopa and never tell the second group. The event will not be televised.
When you know, you know. I am not sure if this book distills universal truth or was just written for me.
On a random note:
I literally BEGGED a surgeon to give me the biohazard bag that contained the teeth and hair from my dermoid cyst. The author is a freaking genius - I think about my beloved cyst all the time.
