Should be a movie

"Killing Che" is an outstanding fictional account of Che's last attempt at revolution. The story is a balanced account told from both Che's side and the CIA, Special Forces and Bolivians involved. The book is very heavily based upon Che's Bolvian diary and recently declassified US government accounts and other texts. It is sympathetic enough not to offend Che idolizers (see Humberto Fontova's excellent book)and tactically and technically accurate enough to impress people with first hand knowledge of counterinsurgency operations.(It was written by a former USN SEAL.) No matter what your feelings about Che and his legacy, this book is totally absorbing and would make a great movie.

Inside IDF SF

4 out of 5 stars

This book was an excellent account of a man's journey from Hollywood brat to elite IDF counter-terrorism team member. The book deals largely with his training and then some of his operational experience. It highlights the difference between US tactics and ideology and those of Israel in dealing with terrorist cells. The Israeli use of methods one would normally associate with undercover police work seems more effective than those that I was taught at SOT (Mott Lake) with its dynamic entries. All in all, a great insight into the way a nation that has been under seige for 60 years deals with problems just emerging in our world. I just wish that he had included more accounts of actual operations.

Sad that this trilogy is over

Although all three of Grey's "border" trilogy books can stand alone, they are best read in chronological order. "The Last Trail" was a fitting end to the series. The narration was excellent and conveyed the action well. This series is my favorite Audible purchase. These books are more timely, IMHO, than James Fennimore Cooper's "Leatherstocking Tales." The prose is not as dated.

Compelling Listening

As with "Betty Zane," I couldn't turn my ipod off. Gray's "border" trilogy are my favorite Audible purchases to date. Great narration, great story, wonderfully descriptive. It's hard to believe that this book is over 100 years old. The writing style is not of the 21st century, but is fresh and timeless.

How did I miss this?

Total
5 out of 5 stars

I have never read any of Zane Grey's books in my over 50 years. However, I purchased his "border" trilogy, detailing and dramatizing his ancestors in the 18th century Ohio Valley. GREAT TALES! Rivals "Drums Along The Mohawk" and Kenneth Robert's "Northwest Passage." Tactically and techincally sound enough to impress this former Marine and Army Special Forces soldier. Read them all!
