Decent entry, but a bit slow pace

Lots I liked... lots I didn't much care for...

good:
-great narration
-solid/interesting combat writing
-main cast's continued personal skill development was enjoyable

not so good:
-all the main trio constantly parroting each other, all the time, got old/repetitive fast. "yes soandso" x3, "thank you soandso" x3, every single time there's dialog with anyone outside the trio... we get it, they're all in-sync and polite. Maybe have all voices overlap to condense the audio a bit? idk.

-Not enough conflict or challenge past people verbally being assholes. The message of "hard paths make for the best magi" falls hollow when everything they do is so easy, and they're all clearly the best and only ever challenged by each other.

-Pacing felt really slow this go-around.

I'll stop there, as it was still mostly enjoyable and I don't want to spoil much.

I'd suggest throwing in some actual hardships and setbacks, though. Split Gregory up and let him survive some on his own, or form some new relationships/interactions on his own and let everyone grow and struggle some. Or some big punishment or trouble unjustly thrust upon him... idk.

Absolutely Amazing! Favorite read of the year!

Good story; MC orientation seemed forced.

Loves the narration, world, and magic system. Enjoyed following the MC development as a magic user, and the two different environments of dungeon and school.

MC's asexual orientation, with romantic/dating interests seemingly not gender-specific, being awkwardly revealed 3/4 the way though the book, never to really be referenced again, seemed very out of place and forced, with little to no value to the story. And, really, feels like the author projecting a forced stance of acceptance very late in the story and character development, for seemingly no real reason related to the actual plot.

Past that, everything else was very enjoyable.

I was so excited to hear the author was going back and starting another line in their world, back from the beginning! The original series really drew me in, and the one-shots that have been released since the first series ended have been fun, they always feel a bit fast, and leave me wanting more depth, development, and continuance for characters involved... stuff that was there a ton in the original series. Enter the new series!! What a cool concept... same world, same events, but entirely new characters we get to experience, long-term, right from the start!! AWESOME!

Narration is quite a bit different from the previous series, as it's done by the author here, like with the one-shot location-based releases. It was an adjustment, as I had grown used to the original narrator in the first series, which I absolutely loved. I've grown to enjoy the charm of narration by the author, though, as it really feels authentically presented as it was intended when written.

The biggest departure here, from the original series, is the lack of jumping between the multiple storylines. That structure I really felt was somewhat a unique, and after adapting to it, I really liked what it came to offer, and kind of miss it here in this series. What is lost, though, has more than been made up for with the extra time spent with the new main character, and not having multiple storylines to track separately. So... an even trade, I feel.

Absolutely loved the story! Characters were all interesting, and the plot moved at a perfect pace. Narration was wonderful as well! Can't wait for volume 2 to hit Audible!!

Refreshing take on the Super genre!

Loved this, and immediately starting on Vol.2. Not going to mention anything about content, other than it was unique, interesting, and the characters were well-rounded. None of the relationships, at all, end up feeling two-dimensional. which was an extremely pleasant surprise, and something I'm unused to in the genre!

The narration was difficult to get used to, especially with the older female characters (especially the mom!! lol), but I found it to be enjoyable overall. And, strangely enough, even the afterward is worth mention... It's the most unique I've ever heard!

All in all, a very enjoyable listen. Thanks, both author and narrator! :)

Stellar, gripping writing in the usual DEAD fashion! And such a treat to hear it in the author's own voice!! Thanks so much for this awesome addition to your world, TW Brown! I look forward to what are, hopefully, many more adventures to come!
