Good narration, but story fell short.
Revisado: 06-01-21
These books have an interesting overall premise, but the execution falls short in this book. There is not enough character development or world building, and the problems the main character encounters are frustrating because they either have simple solutions she never even considers, or they are of her own making and completely avoidable.

Historia
Delivering a rare book to a valued customer is definitely part of mild-mannered archivist Anna Whitfield's job description. You know what isn't? Protecting her precious cargo from midflight theft by the very pilot who is flying her to Half-Moon Hollow...while trying to appear as unappetizing as possible to the only other passenger, a vampire. Undead bookstore owner Jane Jameson could be waiting a very long time for her book. Possibly forever.

Historia
They came after the Diseray. Some were terrors ripped from our collective imaginations, remnants of every mythology across the world. And some were like nothing anyone had ever dreamed up, even in their worst nightmares. Now, the luckiest Cits live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the hideous monsters fighting to break through.

Meh
Revisado: 04-26-18
This book might have been better if I had read it instead of listening to the audiobook. The narrator was pretty monotone, and in places even sounded more like a computerized voice than a person. It made the book seem pretty dry and I had a hard time listening all the way through.
The concept for the book is good, but the delivery kind of missed the mark. There wasn’t really any suspense, and even the descriptions of the hunting, which was supposed to be action packed and suspenseful, was dry and a bit boring. Again, that could be due to the narrator reading those scenes in a complete monotone. I also felt the main character lacked depth. She was purely good, with no faults. It was rather unrealistic. The interpersonal relationships were also underdeveloped.
The author invented a lot of slang that was used regularly by the characters in the book, but a lot of that slang was never really explained, so there were parts where it wasn’t clear what the characters were talking about. She also never really clearly explained the organization of the government, which to me was a big problem as the whole origin of conflict in the book seemed to be about the politics of this new world and different factions within the government being at odds with each other.
Overall it seemed like this book was purely a set up for the continuation of the series. It ends with almost all questions unanswered.

Historia
It all started when infected bats bit a small group of humans and created what are now called vampires. Then, the male vampires knocked up some female humans, and the result was a gorgeous race of all male ash - superhuman freaks that had looks to kill. Charlie is the first female ash, aka unicorn of the Hive - the gated compound in Portland that the humans have designated to isolate vampires and ash from society.

Good Story, okay narration
Revisado: 08-28-16
I really liked the story, but I will be reading the next book, not listening. The narrator was okay, but there were a few things she did that bugged me.
She would say a sentence very loudly, or put anger behind it, then when the narration continues, you find out the author meant for that sentence to be said softly, or quietly, so it was a bit discordant.
Also, with every word that ended in an "ng" she made a kind of thickened, almost clicking sound, like she had a head cold. It was very distracting for me.
Overall her performance was okay, but if you are bothered by things like this, I would recommend reading the book instead of listening.
