Historia
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Whether you agree or disagree with the recommendations for action in the book the studies are so compelling to take action in some form or fashion against our cultural mistruths. We are at risk of doing our children a great injustice by keeping them too safe

Historia
Forty days of solitary confinement can drive a person mad. In fact, only a few days without interaction with another human can trigger depression or an existential crisis. On the other hand, time spent in silence with a close friend can heal madness. We are designed to be in fellowship with our Maker. So, what happened to break that relationship? To ask it another way, why do we sometimes hear nothing but silence from God?

Couldn't have said it better myself
Revisado: 05-14-20
This book presents 40 wonderful answers to the question: "Why am I not hearing the voice of God?" It is a story formed setting of a first person telling of chasing after God through the wilderness. Songs and poetry are mixed throughout the recording as well as a delightful presentation of varying characters. I would highly recommend this book to all who seek.
Disclaimer: Ken Read is my father and I have never been more proud of one of his writings than that of this work. His influence in my life continues to bless me and my children and I pray that this book would be a small portion of sharing in that blessing

Heavenly resources have only one purpose - that Jesus Christ would receive his full reward and inheritance in our age. Just as God held nothing back from Solomon, who longed to build a tabernacle for God on earth, God will hold nothing back from a generation of people who long to bring Jesus everything that belongs to him! God is about to release finances and resources to reshape the Body of Christ on the earth.

This book seemed to be more about personal revelation then about scriptural truths and teaching. If that's what you're into then this is a great book. It is not my cup of tea.

Historia
In this short audiobook on childrearing, Douglas Wilson points out that we have a Father who delights in us and makes it easy for us to love and obey him. If that is the kind of Father we have, shouldn't we earthly parents do the same? Wilson explains how parents should not just try to get their kids to obey a set of rules or to make their house so fun that following the rules is always easy. Instead, he calls for parents to instill in their kids a love for God and His standards that will serve them well all their days.

Let's make a deal, you and me. Let's make promises to each other. I promise to tell you my story. The whole story. I'll tell you about a boy in love with Jesus, who, at the fateful onset of puberty, realized his sexual attractions were persistently and exclusively for other guys. I'll tell you how I lay on my bed in the middle of the night and whispered to myself the words I've whispered 1000 times since: "I'm gay." I'll show you the world through my eyes.

Historia
After escaping an abusive marriage, Cara Brookins had four children to provide for and no one to turn to but herself. In desperate need of a home but without the means to buy one, she did something incredible. Equipped only with YouTube instructional videos, a small bank loan and a mile-wide stubborn streak, Cara built her own house from the foundation up with a work crew made up of her four children. It would be the hardest thing she had ever done.

You Can't Make Up a Story this Heart-Breaking
Revisado: 08-04-17
What didn’t you like about Cara Brookins’s performance?
She read the whole thing with too monotone a voice. The stories themselves were extremely well written, but the performance was not engaging.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes. It would be either a thriller or a horror movie with inspirational tones throughout.
Any additional comments?
No family should have to go through this. It is a terrible story. It is an inspiring story. It is an amazing account of tenacity and grit. God bless this home and family.

Policing the Black Man explores and critiques the many ways the criminal justice system impacts the lives of African American boys and men at every stage of the criminal process, from arrest through sentencing. Essays range from an explication of the historical roots of racism in the criminal justice system to an examination of modern-day police killings of unarmed black men.

A Book Every Young White Male Should Read
Revisado: 08-04-17
What made the experience of listening to Policing the Black Man the most enjoyable?
The essays present a side of the #blacklivesmatter story that a privileged white male is unfamiliar with. These essays helped open my eyes to the need to educate America on racism and how the political system needs to be educated in policing more equally.
Any additional comments?
The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is due to the selection of essays the editor (Angela Davis) chose. Once you hear the first 2 or 3 essays you have heard basically the entire book. The following essays use the same examples of police brutality and make the same basic points. I heard the same quote two or three times about how "America is moving towards two societies, one white, one black -- separate and unequal." I really wish the editor had done a better job presenting new material throughout the book as a whole.

Historia
July 30, 1945 - The USS Indianapolis and its 1,196-man crew is making its way toward a small island in the South Pacific. The ship is sailing unescorted, assured by headquarters the waters are safe. It is midnight, and Marine Edgar Harrell and several others have sacked out on deck rather than spend the night in their hot and muggy quarters below. Fresh off a top-secret mission to deliver uranium for the atomic bombs that would ultimately end World War II, they are unaware their ship is being watched.

You won't want to hit pause!
Revisado: 10-25-16
What did you love best about Out of the Depths?
The story of courage and faith is truly inspirational. This first-hand account of the chilling story of the USS Indianapolis is a thriller that also points towards faith in God.
What did you like best about this story?
There were several moments I found myself holding my breath along with the author as he accounted the rising waves and the circling sharks. A great first-hand account.
What about Eric Martin’s performance did you like?
He read it convincingly
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Surviving the countless perils of the open water
Any additional comments?
I would have loved to have had different vocal inflections when Eric Martin got to the quotes in the book from other survivors.

Power trip
Revisado: 07-07-16
If you are a type A, strong willed, extrovert who doesn't mind forcing your views, opinions, and life styles on others, then you will love this book.
But even if you are you won't learn anything that the title of the book doesn't already tell you. "Try harder than other people and you will become successful." He spends an awful lot of time finding new ways to say the same thing over and over again. I gave up on it halfway through.
With that said, maybe all the nuggets are in the back half if the book, who knows? I decided my time was more valuable engaging in a book that was more constructive
