The narrator is so horrible!

Why does the narrator switch between some kind of fake English accent and then haughty over pronouncing other parts?
Especially when she tried to emulate the older lady friend she met in West China who is American, she used some weird English accent for her?
Please can Jen narrated this herself... the voice actor totally ruined what would have been a great listen!
