Historia
Mark believes he’s meeting Jimmy for the first time in the diner where he works, but he’s wrong. Mark has no recollection of their original encounter because the wholesome Jimmy of today couldn’t be more different than he was two years ago. Back then, Jimmy sported multiple piercings and facial hair. He was painfully skinny—and a meth addict. The drug transformed him into a lying, conniving thief. Mark doesn’t associate the memory of a hookup gone wrong with this fresh-faced 20-something…but Jimmy knows. Can Mark see Jimmy for the man he is now?

4 stars overall
Revisado: 08-29-22
I first read The Perils of Intimacy back in 2017 when it was first released. Rick R. Reed is one of my go-to authors, and this story did not disappoint. The history the two MCs share is painful and heartbreaking. Their second chance brings those dark times back to the surface. These characters are put through the wringer. The themes of redemption and forgiveness are heavy and written with a rawness that sticks with you long after you've turned the last page.
David Allen Bargo is a new-to-me narrator and, while I found his voice and characters just fine, it's the sound effects that make me give the narration 3 stars. The beeps and buzzing and distorted voices marking internal dialogue and phone calls took me out of the story. The first beep, when Mark is leaving a voicemail, was jarring and I'd hope that was the last of it. Also, the echo effect of the characters internal dialogue was distracting.
My issues with the audio are purely personal preference, and I don't think anyone should avoid listening because of my opinion. I am very likely to listen to other books by this narrator.
Five stars for the story; 3 for narration.

DNF at 3 hours in
Revisado: 11-30-21
The blurb and title drew me in; the actual story was a painful experience. At 11 hours and 20 minutes, this is a fairly long book. Given what I did listen to, I can't imagine what could be interesting enough about these characters and their story to fill another 8 hours.
The drama was way over the top. Seriously, soap opera levels. The emotions and feelings fluctuated so often that I got whiplash. One minute, MC1 is so in love with MC2 that he wants to marry him. The next, he's questioning their relationship. MC2 misses MC1 so much, one minute. Then, MC2 is annoyed with MC1's clinginess. These wishy-washy feelings veer from one extreme to the other and back again numerous times. Figure it out, guys!
This story seems to be filled with toxic relationships not just between the MCs. The minor characters meddle and cause their own unnecessary drama. I just didn't get anyone's motivation.
There is also a lot of telling rather than showing, and the use of the words "rod" and "member" would have been funny had the author intended so.
I did enjoy the narrator, who was new to me. Great voice and inflection.
I would recommend to those considering reading True Faith to read the first book in this series, Just Like Heaven, as there is reference to some important events in Book 2.

Sweet and low angst
Revisado: 12-17-20
Overall rating: 3.5 stars
Summary of review: A low angst, fun story with narration that could use more oomph.
Narration: 3 stars
James Edward Jones is a new-to-me narrator, and it usually take a while for me to get accustomed to a narrator's style. Jones' performance is no exception.
Differentiation in the voices of the two MCs was rare, making it difficult to determine who was speaking if the dialogue tags weren't obvious. And the sister's voice was the same as all the other characters. I prefer a wider range of voices and inflections.
I did thoroughly enjoy drunk Beau, though; it was super cute.
***
Story: 4 stars
For me, the story was more lust than love. There was so much chemistry between Adam and Beau, but the romantic love part was lost on me. I felt they needed to get to know one another better.
I did enjoy how Adam took care of Beau, and Beau's stubbornness in wanting to not be dependent on Adam.
The parallels to Beauty and the Beast were lovely. Who doesn't love a huge library?
I liked how both MCs had the same level of education and worked together to get their GEDs.
Overall, Beauregard and the Beast was a sweet read.

Fake relationship with a dash of politics
Revisado: 11-14-20
Narration 3.5 stars
Story 4 stars
Wyatt Baker is a new-to-me narrator, and it usually takes a few books for me to get accustomed to a voice. At times it was difficult to distinguish which MC was speaking as both characters were voiced the same. For me, it's easier to follow along with a story when a narrator uses a different tone or inflection for each main character. Having said that, the narration was more than acceptable. Baker's performance was enjoyable and I would listen to another of book narrated by him.
As for the story, one of my favorite tropes--fake relationship--is the main plot point and is what drew me to this book. Though the writing felt repetitive at times, I thoroughly enjoyed Avery and Rory and the evolution of their relationship. It was sweet how they reconnected years after their high school fling. Avery's dad was an excellent villain. Other minor characters were fleshed out and complimented Avery and Rory's story. I especially loved Rory's family.
Although part of a series, I didn't feel lost at any point during this story. Faking the Groom can absolutely be read as a stand-alone.
In all, I'd recommended this book for anyone who loves fake relationships, found family, and second chances.

Hot hot hot!
Revisado: 07-21-20
Don't listen to this one in public if you're easily embarrassed because it is HOTT! I could feel my face burning as I listened through my headphones. If only the people around me knew what I was hearing!
This was a new-to-me narrator, and I think I might need to listen to a few more of his work to get comfortable with his inflections and tone.
