A little too much

I am afraid I had quite a lot of trouble following the characters and getting invested in their stories. I skipped ahead to the last five chapters about halfway through and was pleased that I had done so.

Hugely disappointing

It seems to me that if the author wanted to explore this kind of writing he should’ve invented some different characters and set them in a different place and told a different story and left Longmire alone. I’m giving up at chapter 6 and returning the book.

I was raking Pine needles while listening to this book and laughing out loud so often that the neighbor came over to find out what was so funny. It’s a lovely, lovely listen and highly recommended. Enjoy!

Complex and compelling...

I'm quite discouraged by some of the reviews here complaining about lack of character development, a soap opera feel, and a boring story... so don't choose this book if you are looking for something fluffy to fold your undies by and unless you are willing to invest the kind of attention it deserves. It is a fascinating and thought-provoking look at how we create ourselves, make choices, allow choices to be made for us, and try to survive. It's a story of love and the truths, told and untold, that love requires. It's a story of stereotypes and racism and the courage to remake oneself. Listen to it to learn, to experience other lives vicariously--and consider your own choices along the way.

Truly awful narration

Could not get past the first chapter. Really too bad that we lost the original narrator whose characters were embedded in our hearts and minds. I really can’t comment on the story because I could not even think about finishing the book. I expect it is just as wonderful as always but many of us will never ever get to hear it. UPDATE: I tried this again and knowing what to expect, the narration was almost bearable. I skipped through most of it but am glad to have not missed this installment entirely.

Too much cooking....

Wonderful fun and rather instructive

I listened with my granddaughters, ages 7 and 9, and we couldn't have enjoyed it more! Lots of good things to think about and very entertaining for all of us.
