Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Excellent reading! The unexpected twists made this a captivating read! All the threads were carefully tied up at the end. Just one rang unbelievable. But it is forgivable due to the incredible story woven.

Historia
The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body - but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

Nora hit it out of the park again
Revisado: 02-15-21
Each time I wonder how NR is going to improve on her previous story. Particularly in a series like In Death. Each time she delivers. I couldn’t stop listening. I devoured it in greedy gulps. It was so good, I’m starting it again to read more leisurely and pick up on all the things that slipped by me in my need to hear it all quickly. Just love how she weaves the life of her characters into the weft of the story.

Catherine Ling was abandoned on the streets of Hong Kong at age four. Schooled in the art of survival, she traded in the only commodity she had: information. As a young woman, she was recruited by the CIA and now she is known as one of their most effective operatives.

Like the story but the narration is a bit stilted
Revisado: 05-29-17
Would you try another book from Iris Johansen and/or Jennifer Van Dyck?
It's a predictable story line. I'm not sure if it is Johansen's writing or the way the narrator reads it but it seems clipped and stilted. I had to stop listening for a while due to the way it came across.
Would you be willing to try another book from Iris Johansen? Why or why not?
Maybe...not for a while - the narration is vaguely unpleasant.
What didn’t you like about Jennifer Van Dyck’s performance?
The reading felt stilted.
Was What Doesn't Kill You worth the listening time?
It has some twists that were interesting.

Historia
Dr. Kay Scarpetta is working a suspicious death scene when an emergency alert sounds on her phone. A video link lands in her text messages and seems to be from her computer-genius niece, Lucy. But how can it be? It's clearly a surveillance film of Lucy taken almost 20 years ago. As Scarpetta watches she begins to learn frightening secrets about her niece. That film clip and others sent soon after raise dangerous legal implications that increasingly isolate Scarpetta and leave her confused, worried, and not knowing where to turn.

Ending Disappointing
Revisado: 04-07-16
Would you listen to Depraved Heart again? Why?
No. The book was disappointing. It is like Ms. Cornwell is splitting the whole story over a number of books - starting with the Bone Bed. I don't have a problem with trilogies or repeat characters, but I do expect a complete story-line in one book.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting was the aspect of "data fiction". All the fractured pieces of the puzzle that were never really tied up at the end. The end cap was unsatisfactory.
Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?
I had a problem with Susan Ericksen as the narrator because I am so used to her being the voices of Eve Dallas and company in J.D. Robb's books. It took a long time for me to lose the specter of Eve in the narration. She did a great job, it was just odd for me.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I was more able to put this book aside that I usually am with a Cornwell book.
Any additional comments?
I knew the housekeeper was not a housekeeper from the beginning. The cops never let a "witness" leave before the primary investigator arrives on scene....even when it's an accident. That was a fatal flaw to the story though I understand that the disguise would not have stood up to scrutiny by Marreno and Scarpetta.

Historia
Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

Good story

The narrator ales Kay sound a bit whiny. Not as strong or decisive as she is written. Story line was good. Kay got a bit over dramatic at the end. Overall enjoyable!
