Historia
When Bernd Heinrich decided to write a memoir of his ultramarathon running experience, he realized that the preparation for the race was as important, if not more so, than the race itself. In Why We Run, Heinrich considers the flight endurance of birds, the antelope's running prowess and limitations, and the ultra-endurance of camels to understand how human physiology can or cannot replicate these adaptations. Heinrich offers an original and provocative work combining the rigors of science with the passion of running.

Meandering Self Indulgent Poetry, that misses the point
Revisado: 01-22-25
While the author is very eloquent in his turn of phrase, the content drones on and on as he describes every minute detail of his observations and life story but fails to get to the point of the title the book alluded to. I wanted to read a book about the scientific and social basis for Why We Run, not listen to somebody speak to hear themselves. Overall, I don’t think that I can even continue listening to this book, as its persistent need to drone on and on about minutia is insufferable.

Keto dogma, using dairy and meat industry backed research.
Revisado: 01-04-24
I bought this book hoping it would add to my knowledge base regarding metabolic function, diet., exercise, and other mechanisms. Unfortunately, as the book progressed, it became clear that the writer was influenced heavily by dietary dogma and research backed by the meat and dairy industries. while I do agree with the premise that metabolic disease drives, obesity, and sickness, I question the research. I would not recommend us book anyone interested in evidence-based medicine.

Dogmatic Drivel, that is nauseatingly inapplicable
Revisado: 09-25-23
It was painful to listen to this book. The narrator did an excellent job of reading the material. However, the author is sexist as the content reads towards the “he, him, and man”, vacant of inclusion, The book reads as if only males could aspire to great things. Additionally, the chapter contents don’t give actionable, useful advice, Instead, it’s an endless stream of tropes, and Carnegieesque wannabe content. I barely made it halfway through the second chapter and had to stop listening. Don’t waste your money on “The Power of Concentration”.
