What is it about the cat that captivates the creative imagination? No other creature has inspired so many authors to take pen to page. Mystery, horror, science fiction, and fantasy stories have all been written about cats.

Lousy Audible production
Revisado: 04-12-23
Why on earth would you create a collection of stories by different authors and title them “chapter 1“ etc.? Seriously, how do you find one author, or remember where you are in a book if you bounce around to other books? Such lazy work, Audible, by putting this together. Titles, please! Just give your poor office intern an hour to do it right…
The stories are quite nice, often very peripherally about cats, and nicely narrated.

Crazy connections of nuts!
Revisado: 06-20-20
This book is a great crime thriller, based on the obscure logistics of massive tons of nuts. It also connects to issues of world trade and tariffs and how they encourage crime, how the trucking industry is literally hijacked into the crime business, and how water use and land subsidence makes canals no longer go downhill. The personal involvement through some great guest narrations adds to the audiobook. Warning: If you rely on Fox News to avoid hearing about labor issues and air pollution and the side-effects of capitalism, this recording and its balanced integrative approach may not be for you.

Just one interesting idea
Revisado: 10-29-18
This story was pretty disappointing. He offered started with one interesting idea, and never really explained it, and never added any kind of an interesting plot behind it. Pointless dialogue between the protagonist and a weak cast of a cop, a robot, a nun, and An unexplained fellow traveler. It ended so fast I thought I’d only downloaded half the narration.

alaxy. Humanity was slowly making their way out from Earth to the planets and asteroids of the Solar System, exploring and mining and founding colonies. The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador's telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it's hard to know what to make of it. It's massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.

The beginning- or a plot filler
- De Don Gilbert en 08-22-14
Sketchy science, no ending
Revisado: 05-15-18
First, the science was bad. Pre-formic, so Newtonian. Why do you have to stop to repair the outside of a spaceship? And all the stopping and starting, where do they get enough mass to do this? They have a gravity laser (that David Brin did much more imaginatively in Earth), but don’t explain. And nothing happens! All set-up! The earth-bound story, with Rackham, connected not at all! Herbert’s kid killed his franchise by explaining every bit of the past, now here too?

Big Star Trek story, not well condensed
Revisado: 01-23-17
I read this story many years ago, and liked the character development, rich story line, and intricate plot. Well, it didn't translate into a 90 min script, and just lumped together a bunch of unlikely alien features that made an unremarkable story. The narration was great, though, Scotty (Doohan?).

Fascinated by junk
Revisado: 11-23-16
The author is in love with scrap, from a long-life family connection. He writes a sympathetic yet critical critique of the business- if you don't want to export potential toxins, for example, maybe first don't buy so much new stuff. I was surprised how much exported junk is re-used (better than recycled)- either repaired, or parted out for valuable LCD's, chips, memory, etc. Also, how economics rules the flow and destiny of every gram of waste.

Sympathetic humorous epic
Revisado: 10-07-16
This beautiful performance of a great story will entice many re-reads. The town of Tres Camarones loses its men to El Norte, and the women seek their own Magnificent Seven, a la Kurosawa, to rescue them. From this improbable premise, a generous and sympathetic view of people experiencing newness, hostility, and foreign-ness.

From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.

Revisado: 12-06-15
This great book recounts a heroic trip down the Colorado, and beautifully ties in history, geology, the construction of dams, storm dynamics, boats and their soul, and innovation (and mistakes) of the Bureau of Rec.
