Historia
Twenty-five-year-old med school dropout Simon Worth is an organ broker, buying kidneys and livers from cash-strapped donors and selling them to recipients whose time on the waitlist is running out. When a seemingly straightforward liver transplant has an unexpectedly dangerous outcome, Simon finds himself on the run. In order to survive, he must put aside his better moral judgment and place his trust in a stranger who has a shocking secret.

Couldn't finish
Revisado: 04-29-16
Myopic and dull. I would not recommend. I ran out of patience for the boring story and the lame performance. Probably not his fault though.

Historia
When Inspector Peter Glebsky arrives at a remote ski chalet on vacation, the last thing he intends to do is get involved in any police work. He's there to ski, drink brandy, and loaf around in blissful solitude. But he hadn't counted on the other vacationers, an eccentric bunch, including a famous hypnotist, a physicist with a penchant for gymnastic feats, a sulky teenager of indeterminate gender, and the mysterious Mr. and Mrs. Moses.

Pretty fun read.

I think that the introduction overplays the "abstract" nature of the story. It is strange, but doesn't dwell on its own strangeness very long. It's interesting how two Cold War Russian writers imagined aliens and detective novels.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Expertly Entertaining Detailed Description
Revisado: 04-21-15
If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?
Tense, sparse, yet thorough
What other book might you compare The Martian to and why?
It reminded me of the Apollo 13 movie with Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and that other guy.
Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The main character's sarcasm is helpful for comic relief in stressful moments.

Historia
All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.

From a Stephen King Newbie
Revisado: 04-16-14
If you could sum up It in three words, what would they be?
Childhood, Belief, Power
Who was your favorite character and why?
"It" doesn't start to have an inner monologue until very late in the book, but it's clear that King developed his antagonist's "person"ality from early on. Thinking from the perspective of a normal villain can become trite, but "It" is nothing normal, which makes for an arguably more interesting psychology.
What does Steven Weber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His "It" voice has stayed with me... woken me up at night... floated out of sewer drains... "We all float... down here."
Who was the most memorable character of It and why?
Personally, spousal abuse isn't something that I understand, so Tom Rogan's perspective was pretty memorable, and scary.
Any additional comments?
A great treatise on the power of belief.
